Asked by Emmy1234 (878points) August 22nd, 2013

I need to know how much I should write for my discussion question for college. Its not in the syllabus and the teacher didn’t say.

Normally, each college application will have a suggested length on the various essays. Read the details.

I haven’t seen the Common Application in years but I would wager that there are suggested lengths there also.

(You don’t mean syllabus).

Yes, I did mean syllabus. That’s where she has our assignments listed and I figured the instructions for this would be there but no.

So if I can’t find it. Would you recommend a particular length? @gailcalled

I do not think that we could possibly guess what length your professor intended. College instructors rarely synchronize assignments. Your best bet is to e-mail the professor and ask them what is to be expected for your assignments.

Are you in the US? Which colleges are you applying to?

Is this a sample college essay that your teacher has asked you to write as a classroom assignment?

Do you pick the topic or did he? Asking him for length is a reasonable question.

Here’s a suggestion from the application to the women’s college that I attended.

“Narrow your topic and try to be as specific and concrete as possible.
The essay doesn’t need to be a tome. In about 500 words…. ”

Here’s that link for a lot more detail.

No, no. Sorry I’m already in college a freshmen. This discussion question is for my computer class (first assignment). It’s out of the book at the end of the chapter. @gailcalled

Ask the professor. Remember the adage: ’“If I had had more time, I would have made it shorter.”

A rule to live by, according to my cat.

Write it as long as you need it to be to get your point across and no more.

I was going to say pretty much the same as @Adirondackwannabe (but shorter):

Not one word more than necessary.

I don’t think so there will be particular length for a questions. Its depends on your topic, it may be 6 to 7 words or more than 7 words.
