Why would a newborn be put in the ICU after a C section?

The daughter of a friend had her son last night and she is in intensive care after her C section and so is the boy. My daughter had 2 C sections and both came out fine. Why would this lady be in ICU when the baby was stuck in the birth canal since all babies who are unable to be born naturally are just delivered via C section? My friend’s daughter’s niece won’t even tell my friend hardly anything due to family estrangement.

How would we know? Obviously, she had some sort of event that her health, possibly her life, is in danger and she needs to be monitored closely. She could be having heart problems, trouble breathing, had a stroke, bled a lot, septic, could be many many things.
Was she transferred to ICU immediately after the birth? Or, did a complication arise hours or days later?
Typically low blood pressure, body is tired, low oxygen, dehydration, fatigue in general, stress, these are all common factors that could put baby and mommy in ICU.
I think the most common reason for going to the NICU is jaundice. That doesn’t mean that’s it, but that seems to be what the most common thing is. There are special glowing lights and blankets they use to cure it and it’s all contained in the NICU.
Type of delivery doesn’t predict either the newborn’s distress or the health of the mother.
“Besides prematurity and extreme low birth-weight, common diseases cared for in a NICU include perinatal asphyxia, major birth defects, sepsis, neonatal jaundice, and Infant respiratory distress syndrome due to immaturity of the lungs.
The leading cause of death in NICUs is generally necrotizing enterocolitis. Complications of extreme prematurity may include intracranial hemorrhage, chronic bronchopulmonary dysplasia (see Infant respiratory distress syndrome), or retinopathy of prematurity. An infant may spend a day of observation in a NICU or may spend many months there.” Source
I thought it was the new mom in ICU, not the baby. I hope the OP comes back.

”...she is in intensive care after her C section and so is the boy.”
Ah, I missed the so is the baby part. Sounds like it was a difficult delivery. I hope everything is better today. Baby probably had been in distress. How awful and scary for everyone that both had such a hard time.
The mother is out of the ICU now but the doctors say they’ll know more (whatever that means) about the baby by Monday or Tuesday.
I think the mother was taken directly to the ICU after delivery.
I am very sad to report the baby died and was cremated. Obviously, his mother is grieving and inconsolable. I thought he would have a funeral but my husband said Atheists don’t have funerals? So my friend never got to see her little grandson.
I’m so sorry to hear this. Had she known there might be complications? I’m sure you don’t want to ask a bunch of questions to her right now, considering how devastating this is.
Atheists do have funerals, I guess the family chose not to have one. Do religious people always have a funeral for a baby born in such distress that doesn’t make it past a few days/weeks. I think it is up to the family how they want to handle it. Maybe the family did not want to deal with a whole service. What exactly would the service be? It isn’t like there is much to be said about the life lead by the deceased. But, I could see maybe doing something graveside for the family if they chose to.
