Is there any video streaming service that has a better selection than Netflix? I'm not happy with the choice of older movies.

Asked by elbanditoroso (33550points) August 24th, 2013

I bought one of those Chromecast dongles, which came with a free 3-month trial to Netflix. I’ve been playing around with Netflix to see if it’s worth continuing my subscription when the three months end.

As of now, I’d have to say no – they have a decent selection of newer films, but I can’t stream Casablanca (for example), and there’s a whole body of work from the 1960s and 1970s that they don’t have the ability to deliver.

Is there any streaming service out there that has a wider selection of older films?

I found this: http://voices.yahoo.com/view-old-movies-tv-shows-free-these-internet-5577415.html

However, I have not been to any of these sites as yet (except Archive.org and amctv.com) so I can’t verify that they have what they say or are even safe to go to.

I have Netflix, Hulu and Amazon streaming. Netflix has the most old movies, more than Hulu and Amazon combined in my estimate. I don’t think Casablanca and many of those movies you mentioned can be found in either Hulu or Amazon.

@elbanditoroso Regardless of your paid streaming service, I bet you would like archive.org.

For example, Little Known Classics You NEED To Watch!

I subscribe to Netflix DVD service (not streaming) to get older movies and TV shows. I think that’ll get you the selection you’re looking for.

@mrentropy – the link you have (to the Yahoo site) was excellent – very helpful.

Thanks to the others as well. I’m going to check out archive.org in the morning.

@judi, thanks – but I am an Apple-hater and will never knowingly give them a cent of my money.

If you’re willing to wait a day, I’d get the Netflix DVD Service. It has the most movies.
