Can you guys give me a good example of a resignation letter?

Not leaving in anger, was just offered a better job. Doesn’t want to burn bridges. Worked there for 6 years. Need some suggestions.

Due to ~, I must submit my two weeks notice of intent to resign, with – being my last day.

Write the first part as a “thank-you” letter. Surely you know how to do that. Thank people for positive contributions to your development, for enriching experiences, for guidance (and challenges) and the opportunity to serve. Thank people for friendships (if any, it’s not a given) that you hope will continue over time. Thank people for whatever is appropriate.

And that serves as the segue to the next paragraph… “An opportunity has been presented which I cannot refuse, and therefore it is with mixed feelings of regret and anticipation that I must inform you that I will be leaving in two weeks to start work at…”

etc.

My preference has always been to express to H.R. and my manager(s) in person the kind of comments suggested by @CWOTUS, and to keep the resignation letter itself short and sweet, as suggested by @KNOWITALL.

Thank you guys. Even you guys who got a little snarky— Thanks.

When my son was about 10 he was a paper boy for our local newspaper. A year later he wanted to quit. They told him he needed to put it in writing. So he began to compose the letter. He asked me how to spell a few words, because he’s a horrible speller and this was important. Then he showed it to me:

Dear Sir,

I QUIT.

Christopher August Joesph Vogler.

I told him to date it and it’s perfect!
