When Barack Obama began his second term, he made some new cabinet appointments. Hillary Clinton had let it be known well ahead of Obama’s reelection that she was not interested in serving a second term of Secretary of State.

That’s not quitting. It’s a natural and orderly completion of a term of appointment without committing to reappointment.

It’s customary for appointments to terminate with the completion of the term of the officer who made the appointment—in little clubs as well as in big countries. A presiding officer who is returned to his or her position for another term may renew appointments, provided that the appointees are willing to continue in service, or replace appointees.

Correction: should be “not interested in serving a second term as Secretary of State.”

It’s August. You were in the hospital a long tome!

On or about the beginning ( January ) of Obama’s second term.

Not unusual for that position.

It is customary, when a President is elected for a second term, for the entire cabinet to submit an offer to resign. As was pointed out in an episode of “West Wing”, people in the executive branch “serve at the pleasure of the President.” (An old term meaning that they can be fired or replaced without explanation.)

Clinton resigned after the fuck up at Benghazi.

@cheebdragon That’s not accurate. Correlation is not causation. Benghazi was back in September. Clinton’s last day as Sec’ty of State was February 1, 2013.

The question was when did she resign. September 2012 falls before February 2013, and February 2013 falls after December 2012 when she accepted responsibility for Benghazi in front of congress. Do I need to explain how a calander works or can you figure it out on your own?

And @cheebdragon November 2012 is two months after Sept 2012, and there was no talk of her leaving until after the re-election. Susan Rice was floated for Secretary of State for the second term. Benghazi had nothing to do with her leaving.

Please tell me where I said the reason for her resignation was Benghazi…...go on, I’ll wait…....

Your statement Clinton resigned after the fuck up at Benghazi. implies a connection between the two. Why else would you make the two points in the same sentence? Or were you just trying to stir things up to get a reaction?

Why would I need to imply anything? I would have said “after her fuck up at Benghazi” if that was my intention. My answer is true in every sense of the word, her resignation wasnt official until Kerry was made official, and it was already a known fact that she was resigning back in December when she was questioned about Benghazi.
I don’t know why she resigned and neither do you, you can speculate all you want but at the end of the day the only person who really knows why is Clinton.
