For people with thinning hair, do short haircuts look good on them?

Short.

Yes to short and neat. No idea what a #4 blade implies. Really, anything but a pony tai, rugl or a comb-over (which fools no one)

Buzz is different from short because it tickles the fingers when caressing your scalp?

Get a stylist you really trust and go with what they say. Everyone is different, type of hair, coloring, grey content, color of skin, color palette of their clothes, so I doubt there is a one size fits all solution.

They look a whole by God lot better than a stupid combover. I saw one of the most ridiculous ones ever a few days ago adorning the head of some “gentleman”, and it was all I could do not to laugh out loud.

To @gailcalled: On American hair clippers, the # refers to “eighths of an inch” on the comb size. So a #4 comb (the one I use for top and back) is a ½” clip. The #3 is a 3/8” length, etc.

@CWOTUS I know a doctor who is a brilliant clinician, I would trust him with my health to the ends of the earth, but he is rocking the Grecian formula/comb-over 1–2 punch. I spend every discussion I have with him furiously biting my tongue.

Short seems to be a lot better than long, but not necessarily a buzz cut. The trick is going to a great salon with a smart stylist as drhat suggests. A good stylist can work wonders, on dudes or chicks alike.

I think it matters whether its a man or a woman. A man can get away with a very short cut or a buzz-cut but I think women with thinning hair look better if they have a longer style to disguise it.

Short worked really well for both David Letterman (remember how long and shaggy he used to look in his younger days?) and Rudy Guliani.

I’m also presuming that they had it done by a top notch stylist.
