How should I season canned butter beans?
I haven’t eaten nearly enough calories and I have very little time today, so I’m adding 200 calories worth (1 cup) of Bush’s canned butter beans to my dinner.
I’ve eaten butter beans before, but I’ve never cooked them. What should I season them with?

Sprinkle a small amount of cinnamon on them.
Warm them in a skillet with butter and some chopped onion, maybe a bit of garlic too.
aYou may be the only person i know who, when wanting to increase her caloric intake, chooses beans. Layer them over maple walnut ice cream or cheese cake.
Add a little molasses to them right before you take them off the heat.
I just throw some pepper on ‘em.
@gailcalled Ha! I’m losing weight by eating better, but I don’t like to go under a certain number of calories. 200 calories of cheesecake makes me feel guilty; 200 calories of beans doesn’t. Some might say they’re the same, but not all calories are created equal. I watch carbs, sugar, and sodium as well.
If you’re worried about health I’d check for frozen ones, then; canned stuff is usually loaded with sodium.
@mrentropy I’m staying under my sodium goal even with the canned. I checked. Plus, no time for the grocery store.
I would add a dash of hot sauce.
You don’t need to add anything to them, they’re fantastic right out of the can. That’s why they call ‘em butter beans : )
I added a bit of pepper and a dash of garlic powder. Pretty good. :)
Thanks everyone.
@hearkat Why thank you. :) You wouldn’t say that if you saw me on a Saturday, though. I work hard all week so I can enjoy a free day. It helps me keep my sanity without sabotaging my progress. Yay for cheat day!
