Wine: Wine is one of the most sophisticated drinks in the world, rich in flavor but yet so simple. Its diversity comes from the different types of grapes, where it is grown and in what manner is produced.
Types of wine:
1) Red wine: Mixing the delicious red grapes with a wide range of aromas, from oak to eucalypti, chocolate or even mint hints. Such as: Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Merlot.
2) White wine: White wine is made from white gapes, produced in Europe. Such as: Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, Riesling, Chardonnay.
3) Rose wine: Rosé wines are a soft version of the red wine, most of them actually produced from red grapes. Such as: Zinfandel Blush, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon.
4) Sparkling Wine: Sparkling wine adds a hint of luxury to every good wine, through a fizzy/bubbly texture. Such as: Champagne, cava.
5) Fortified Wine: Fortified wine is a wine that has been blended with a liquor. Such as: Port, Sherry, Madiera, Marsala, Vermouth, Bum Wine.
6) Dessert Wine: These are sweet wines and as the name suggests, they are generally served with dessert. Such as: Ice Wine, Raisin Wine, Noble Rot Wine, Some Fortified Wines
Beer: Beer is produced through the alcoholic fermentation of a malted cereal, usually barley malt, with or without other starchy materials, to which hops have been added.
Types of beer:
1) Bock
2) Dry beer
3) Pilsner
4) Ales
5) Lagers
6) Pale Ale
7) Bitter
8) Mild
9) Porter
10) Stout
The best way to learn is to go to a winery or brewery and do a tasting. Usually 5 wines for $2.00 or 8 for $3.00. Just don’t let them talk you into it at 11:00 AM on the way to the farmer’s market. First hand knowledge of that.
Noone has mentioned Hefewiezen (half wheat beer) very good.
Oh man yeah @marinelife , I love Pyramid hefe’, very good beer.
Yes, go to local wineries and tasting rooms to sip on your education.
You should come to my neck o’ the woods. I live in the Sierra Nevada foothill wine zone.
My county is quite famous for it’s wineries and microbreweries.
I’d recommend some amazing ales to order, but, they are not pasturized so unable to ship.
When tasting you will start with whites and progress to the reds in the fleet.
Many nuances to wines and you will find your favorites, often obscure wines from obscure vintners. haha
If you’re in California or planning a trip, come to my county, you won;t be disappointed!
