Why can't I sleep past 7:30 a.m. anymore?
All of my life I’ve been a night owl. Could stay up all night, sleep all day. Left to myself, I could sleep till noon everyday. However, sleeping till noon always made me mad at my self because it basically wrecked the whole day. You’d feel like it’s 1:00 and it would be 4:00. I’d just lose the damn day. BUT I could do it, easily.
In times past when I had no reason to get up I managed to discipline myself to get up by 9:00, but I really had to force myself.
However, in the last month my eyes snap open at 7:30 a.m., seven days a week, like an alarm went off, and that’s all she wrote. I can’t go back to sleep.
It’s not necessarily bad, but for me, and my life long sleeping habits, it’s strange. I mean, my love of sleeping is legendary in my family! I often list it as one of my hobbies.
Any ideas why this is happening?

You’re in your mid-forties, yes? Our sleep patterns change with age and hormonal fluctuations.
My papaw said the older you get the less sleep you need?!
But I WANT the sleep! I miss it!
Me too, I used to be able to sleep while 11am. For the last 2 years, I am up at 8!
I have found that I need far less sleep than I used to. I still go to bed around 1am but I’m usually awake again by 7 and I function fine on 6 hours. Even on my days off work I still wake naturally between 7 and 7.30 anyway. I can sometimes get back to sleep for another hour but not always, and never more than that unless I’m actually ill.
When I first started testosterone therapy, I suddenly found myself craving 10 hours again, and wanting to stay in bed ALLLLL morning. That lasted about 2 months and then I was back to 6 hours again, but I certainly empathise with teenage boys who want to stay in bed all day. It’s purely hormonal.
Well, it’s not just hormonal @downtide. Teenage boys especially are racing at full speed every waking hour!
