I wish they called it the Romney fire, because it’s burning trees he said weren’t the right height.
Who gives these events their names?
What would you call it?

I think the location of the fire is gives it its name. And the year, if there has been more than one. I think the fire fighting people name it. Seems fitting. The idea of naming them after people seems odd, to say the least.
A burning Rim..sounds like a bad dose of haemorrhoids.
Maybe name it Piles Fire
In the US, the first firefighting unit that makes contact gives them their official names, usually it comes originally from a local geographical feature, but not always. The US Forest Service can change a name if they deem it inappropriate.
I don’t know, but the word “rim” always makes me think of the act of rimming. That is, licking someone else’s asshole.
@livelaughlove21 I have no doubt the firefighters involved will recall this as the “rim job”.
As a Californian I can say this fire was most likely called The “Rim” fire because it started in and around the rim of Yosemite Natl. Park in the Stanislaus Natl. forest.
It started Aug. 17, in a very remote area called “Jawbone Ridge.”
No lightening strikes in the area and it is almost certain it was human started.
Serious speculation lends itself to illegal marijuana growers in the forest.
Hey..it’s California….up in smoke.
Really awful situation, I have been smoke damaged for days, devastated over 200,000 acres of amazing wilderness. Nice going Cheech! Pffft!
@coloma No need to pick on the potheads. The fire was started by the mis-management of a hunter’s illegal campfire. ‘Serious speculation’ is nothing more than politically driven assumptions not based on facts and propagated by the media. The Chief responsible for those rumors actually had nothing to do with the actual investigation into the cause. Not one person officially involved ever gave such careless and speculative commentary.
I couldn’t care less about pot, personally, but I think unsubstantiated ‘speculation’ being reported nationally as news can be harmful to a community that will have enough obstacles to face from the fire before getting unsubstantiated bad press.
@GloPro Right, I had written that posting when it was still in the speculative stage.
Your sharing came to light a few days later. As I mentioned, it was all speculation. I am pro-weed but not growing it illegally in Natl. forests.
@Coloma morning! I mostly wrote that response for anyone else cruising old topics. For people that weren’t following along, I just wanted blame to be justly put. The speculation was national headlines, the follow-up truth was back page news. I live near there and don’t want all the tourists to get any mis-conceptions. That’s all.
