General Question

Are there no historians (particularly U.S. Navy historians) or others who can read Japanese on Fluther?

I really hoped someone could decipher the passage on this Japanese print that sardonically refer to Perry and the “Opening of Japan” in this question I posted earlier.

I saw the question, but my Japanese is not advanced enough to read the style of calligraphy in the print. I cannot even see the number 36 anywhere on it.

I think geeky_mama might.

@wildpotato I hope she sees this then!

I looked it up and came to the conclusion that it’s a local dialect before the language became standardized. I found nothing. I’m sorry…

@DWW25921 but thanks so much for trying!

You can PM for my fb info and my family can decipher for you, my Japanese is limited to one year of study so I won’t be much good, they live there though.

User Shinimegami claims to be Japanese. Worth a try?
