Depends.

On many things, no, but on anything the slightest bit controversial too many edits contradicting too many others.

For instance.

Most biology articles ( an article on oxidative phosphorylation, for instance ) are well written and written by experts.

An article on sociobiology has too many conflicting points of view, is constantly edited, ( unless locked ) and more ideologically inclined than scientifically descriptive.

Still, most teachers will not accept wiki articles are source material.

The answer depends entirely on your use for the information. If you want an introduction to a topic you have no familiarity with, Wikipedia is usually a good source of information (though it can depend on the topic – don’t try this for math or statistics, for example). If you are writing a scholarly research article, Wikipedia is a bad source of information.

Wikipedia, like other encyclopedias, is not a source of information but a pointer to sources. That’s why the [citation needed] tag comes from there.
It’s not good or bad. It’s useful or not useful depending on how you use it.

I know for a fact that Wikipedia is not the best source for PHILOSOPHY. If you are studying philosophy in school, don’t go on Wikipedia, it has some incorrect information. This is the only this I can tell you for sure, because one of my professors has a PhD in Philosophy! I don’t know how accurate it is with other subjects, but I can tell you this much from philosophy.

@rexacoracofalipitorius That. Wiki is good for the jist of something, but I would extend my studies further than there if I needed to know something thorough. Mostly I use it to find out dates, or names. And it does have a lot of links more often than not for their sources, so it’s not like it doesn’t give you other options if you’re not satisfied with its articles.

Wikipedia has gotten better, but the only academic use it has is as a tool to find resources.

Overall, I would say that it is a good source of material on which to build. Do not depend on it, use it as a launch pad on which to gather the basics and shoot off into the webosphere in search of a deeper understanding of whatever it is that has grabbed your interest.

Do you want anyone to take you seriously?

No, Definitely not Even, I think that it’s an absolutely amazing website to bring lots of knowledge into us. For any related topic or product it’s a best source to get precious information.

No, I would think most information on there is edited by people thinking they know more than the next person.
