What period style of art did most Chinese and Japanese painters do their peacock pieces?

Asked by pleiades (6617points) September 8th, 2013

I’m looking for dates and some artist who were prominent in the realm of drawing/painting peacocks, and other animals.

I’m not sure if they were Chinese, Japanese, Korean or all, but definitely oriental style, I remember my uncle telling me about how he got some paintings from a station when he was in the Navy and I never really appreciated Asian art in this manner. Looking forward to studying this on my own with your help!

I did a search for “Japanese painting with peacock” and found quite a few names and dates. Here is one. http://www.metmuseum.org/collections/search-the-collections/49003

A search for “Korean painting with peacock” brought this slide show. In it is a picture from the Ming Dynasty. (I know that’s supposed to be Chinese, right?) of birds admiring peacocks. http://prezi.com/uchxqvamytio/chapter-24-chinese-and-korean-art-after-1279/

And this from the Peabody Essex Museum. You might be able to contact museums like these to find out more information. http://prezi.com/uchxqvamytio/chapter-24-chinese-and-korean-art-after-1279/

Likewise a search for “Chinese painting with peacock” brought many results like this. You might search for the individual artist and find the dates they lived. And you could contact the seller and see if the pieces have dates on them. http://www.inkdancechinesepaintings.com/chinese-peacock-peahen-paintings.html
