@rockfan You like the light stuff or the more hardcore?

rockfan's avatar

I like all types of music, but my favorite bands/singers are ones that balance soft and loud dynamics in their music. Especially bands like The White Stripes and The Black Keys.

Okay, Have your tried UFO, Head East, REO Speedwagon, BTO, The Band, or Blue Oyster Cult? A bunch of older stuff but it does what you want. I don’t have a fav album though right now.

Right now I am listening to Carlos Kleiber’s recording of Beethoven’s 5th with the Vienna Philharmonic.

@Adirondackwannabe This is a question about an album you listened to lately. ;)

I’ve been listening to the new Elvis Costello.

rockfan's avatar

@Adirondackwannabe Besides UFO, those are the bands I grew up listening to. They’re not among my all-time favorite bands though, but they’re nice to listen to every now and then.

Adirondackwannabe's avatar

@glacial Okay hard ass. :) How about Snow Patrol, Fallen Empires?

Adirondackwannabe's avatar

I like Pitbull too, that surprises a few.

glacial's avatar

@Adirondackwannabe Glad to hear you enjoyed it. :)

rockfan's avatar

@Adirondackwannabe The song he did for Men in Black 3 was pretty catchy, but other than that, I think his music is boringly trashy.

Adirondackwannabe's avatar

@rockfan Pitbull?
@glacial Snow Patrol or Pitbull?

So by Peter Gabriel.

@rockfan No biggie, That’s why we have different tastes. Want everything the same?

@glacial I’ve been listening to the new Elvis Costello [and The Roots].

I know I will like that. Thanks!

glacial's avatar

@jaytkay It’s great… and keeps improving on listening. Of course, I can’t imagine not having that reaction to anything Costello does. ;)

Abbey Road, vocals only, no instruments. They sure could sing!

Joni Mitchell’s Court and Spark

Joni Mitchell’s Court and Spark

Yep. I picked that up again after a twenty year break. Wow.

I recently found a band I had never heard of thanks to our local university radio station. Soul Coughing. They had modest mainstream success in the mid to late 90s.

Some songs from Ruby Vroom:
Is Chicago, Is Not Chicago
Michael Jackson
Janine

Garcia & Grisman’s Not For Kids Only. I suspect that once I download Bela Fleck’s new orchestral album I’ll become obsessed for a few weeks; I keep catching snatches on the radio and it’s excellent.

Slayer’s Reign in Blood album still kicks ass after 27 years. It was ahead of its time then, and is still better than most metal albums being put out today.

Well, I immediately want to listen to the Queens of the Stone Age album, since I haven’t since their first release. But then… to finish your list with Herb Alpert… that’s intriguing.
