Which Pride & Predjudice movie did you love?

Asked by Unbroken (10751points) September 13th, 2013

I recently became determined to watch 1995 mini series with Colin Firth. The first time I saw P&P admittedly. I went to the library and I had the choice of watching the 2005 version starring Keira Knightley and a much earlier version.

I choose the 2005 version. I enjoyed the movie but I love Keira Knightley. I still found myself wishing for the expanded content, charm and sweeping vistas and rapier like dialogue that was somewhat present but in such mini format I felt cheated. Then there is of course the matter of Colin Firth.

What I was wondering is if I had merely fallen in love with what I had seen first or whether it truly was the better version. My perception of its fabulousness may be faulty in the lapsed years. What is your favorite and why.

I’m in agreement with you, I find the 2005 version the best.

The 1995 version is much truer to the spirit of Jane Austen and I am a Jane Austen student. The Keira Knightly film seemed to think they were making “Wuthering Heights.” I really didn’t care for it. I did love the recent version of “Jane Eyre” though.

I love them all, one of my all-time favorite books, but Colin is great. I also just read the Zombie version of the book and it was pretty funny, but I’m a big fan.

@janbb I haven’t seen it yet, I’m dying to though!! :)

@janbb I also haven’t seen it or even read the book. I will have to check it out.

@KNOWITALL I know wgmhat you mean specific elements are great others not so much in each. It is hard to choose.

@trailsillustrated why do you favor that one in particular? The length or actors maybe the closing scene?

@Unbroken : The sets. the actors. I really found it to be true to the story but I haven’t read Jane Austen since I was a kid. I think I will have to go back and watch the 1995 version.

I liked the 1995 miniseries, and the earlier black and white feature film version. And, reading the book.
