Are there computer monitors that have non-backlit screens like an Amazon Kindle?

I have a friend who has a severe acquired neurologic disorder and he can not read regular LCD backlit screens because it gives him severe migraines, but he can look at a non-backlit Amazon Kindle. Are there computer screens that can utilize similar technology?
