Some people are allergic to latex.
Latex allergy/sensitivity is the only reason I’d ever use those things. First of all, they only protect you from pregnancy; nothing else. Also, they smell like a high school dissection of a fetal pig and, according to my husband, that’s what they feel like too. Cold and wet and gross.
Unless you have a latex allergy I’d stay away from them.
Supposedly they feel better but I disagree. They were gross. Furthermore they do not protect either participant from disease. (That is stated clearly on the package.)
In my opinion you are paying extra money for an inferior feel and limited disease protection – not a good investment .
Really, I did not know that.
@Eggie It is true. Skin type condoms are porous to the AIDS virus (and others). Latex is not.
As the others have said, they aren’t really better in any way. They’re just the only option some people have. I’ve heard it argued that there the scientific basis for claiming they are not as good at protecting against disease is somewhat lacking because there have been no clinical trials on the matter. This is true, but it is worth noting that the basis for the claim is that lambskin is porous, which is one of the problems condom manufacturers were trying to overcome when they came up with their latex solution. So just because there haven’t been any clinical trials on lambskin in particular, the problems they present have been recognized as problems for a long time.
I went to the CDC site and they only mention Latex condoms as being effective for disease control.
The skin condoms specifically mention that they are not.
~If the woman is a card carrying member of PETA or similar animal rights group, merely stating that you have a skin condom might be sufficient for 100% effective STD control.
True @LuckyGuy Latex is better and it offers a better choice as well.
