Keep exercising to keep your body and mind sharp.

Move as much as you can and as often as is good for you. Find people who make you laugh or think. See them as much as possible. If it’s possible, get a cat or dog that is quiet, already trained and a good companion. Snacks are to individual taste as are books and TV. Do watch your diet so you don’t gain a lot of weight.

Four syllables, marijuana.

@Blondesjon Your 4 syllables cause the munchies! lol
Sedentary lifestyle + munchies = not good.
That being said, Cheetos + peanut butter = delicious!

Resist being comfortable in it. Get out and do something – anything.

Eat healthy foods, get plenty of exercise, drink enough water, get enough sleep and you will be more comfortable in what ever you choose to do.

I find that keeping busy, even doing household chores I don’t like, helps.

Don’t turn into a couch potato. Even though I think I would like more free time, I don’t think I would want a life where I had nothing to do for the rest of my life. I think one thing you might consider is to volunteer for an organization.

@Katniss Stale cheetos are my fav. Gotta leave the bag open for about 48 hrs. and periodically shake them around for perfectly uniform staleness distribution. lol

Yes, there is sedentary and then there is complete inertia.
You can be sedentary for the most part, but the other part you have to make up for with exercise of some kind and mental stimulation.
Get some weights and lift them while watching Tv, do leg lifts if you are stuck in a chair.
Do deep knee bends and do not eat a lot of fats, sugar and carbs or you will blow up like a balloon.

Get some field guides on birds and insects and learn to identify your local nature friends.
Learn to cook. Make healthy homemade soups and salads. The internet is full of great recipes.

Rearrange your home from time to time to change things up.
Buy some house plants and tend to them, and yes, get a prt if you can make the commitment to care for it well, a cat won’t have as many needs as a dog. A bird would be good too, maybe a cockateil. They are great, smart, funny birds, love attention and can learn to talk.

My advice, which I am following as I approach 70, is don’t live a retired, sedentary lifestyle. Work, even if it’s volunteer work, or writing a book. Do something that is meaningful to you and that keeps your mind active and engaged. Work out. Stay active and engaged. It takes a lot longer to wear out than to rust out.

@ETpro I Fluther for fun and I walk to A&W once a week.

Get a hobby that involves going out and meeting people. Join a club for whatever interests you.

@talljasperman: I hope you’re joking about only walking once a week, because you’re not doing yourself any favors if you let yourself go, physically.

@jca I would stay in my man cave 24/7 If I could. I only go outside for appointments and to pick up a burger or groceries. I will try to go every day to pick up fresh fruit on October 1 at Sobeys.
