Are all of the Gateway lap top chargers the same?

Asked by Dutchess_III (47126points) September 26th, 2013

I’m looking through Amazon and it isn’t asking me for a model number. I tried plugging it in as part of the search. I seem to have two:

3430UI
ML3109

Either of those just brings up the same information, so I’m wondering if the chargers are universal?

No, they aren’t. Depending on the age of the laptop, then can draw 19 volts, 27 volts, ore (on some older ones) 42 volts. And the amperage (the rate of flow of the electricity) required is also different from machine to machine.

You are better off going to the Gateway web site and seeing that was shipped with your machine – it will give you the voltage and amperage in the specs. And it will probably give you a part number as well for the charger (as its own unit).

Also, consider other vendors. Amazon is nice, but newegg.com is also reputable. As is tigerdirect.

I tried Amazon first.
I’ll check Gateway now. Thanks.
