Is it possible to extract a few pages from a large PDF file in order to create a new file?

Asked by jordym84 (4752points) September 26th, 2013

I need to email a few pages from a large PDF file and I was wondering if anyone here knows of a tried and true way of doing it. I found this by doing a Google search but it didn’t work for me. I followed all the steps but when I click on the menu button (step 4), there is no option to “Extract Files” as in the picture.

@jordym84 That’s because you’re probably using the free Adobe reader, and not Acrobat Pro. Reader won’t do it.

Please let us know if you have Adobe Acrobat (rather than just Adobe Reader). If yes, I can help you. The process involves a few quick, easy steps.

It looks like I have Adobe Reader.

I do this a lot, using PDF Split and Merge for Windows. It’s free.

On Mac OS, Preview will do it.

I cheat. I use a “print to PDF” driver to print just the pages I want to a new PDF.

@jerv For some reason my print to PDF has stopped working. It just hangs forever.
Seemed to happen about the time someone was sending me “PDF complete” downloadable files and the program installed. I did not buy it and old adobe seems to be screwed somehow.

What are you using?
CutePDF?
PrimoPDF? (My recommendation)
BullZIP?
