I did not watch too many movies this year.
Iron man 3. It was OK.
Star Trek into Darkness. What a piece of shit. As bad as The Phantom Menace. Worse than 2009. But I came to expect that from Jar Jar Abrams.
Man of Steel. A Turd.
Pacific Rim. Meh.
The Wolverine. OK.
Evil Dead
I enjoyed it pretty good, and didn’t come into that movie expecting it to have the slapstick humor of the first, nor did I imagine that it would be a genuine remake. (this is more of a re imagining) Therefore, a lot of what may have disappointed old time fans did not bother me, and I enjoyed it. As a horror movie it worked perfectly fine, it was dark and extremely gory, and I really appreciated that a lot of the key elements from the original were included in this, it was a nice surprise. Even the old car makes an appearance, ha.
My only real complaint was that ever since movies like The Ring became popular, every damn apparition or possessed person has to look like a decomposed Japanese girl with a seizure. Get some new ideas.
Texas Chainsaw Massacre
Meh, this kind of blew. They tried something way too different, filling the whole movie with too much plot, character progression that went nowhere…looked more like a shitty sitcom than a horror movie. They should just have stuck with the basic horror formula that makes horror movies work. Less chat, more killing. It’s not complicated. Plus one of the things I love the most in these Chainsaw movies is the imagery…desolate farmhouses, dreary scenery and morbid chairs made out of people. This movie didn’t have anything like that. But the whole family feud thing was a little interesting…still. Oh also, kick ass chainsaw duel at the end, was worth it just for that part.
The Hobbit
Fun movie with awesome special effects, and it was more than respectably faithful to the book, at least so far as the movie went into the book. (can’t wait for part two where hopefully we’ll see that lumberjack dude who turns into a werebear) Unfortunately I didn’t find the movie as epic and grandiose as TlotR ones, kind of dragged on a bit after a while. And personally, I like my fantasy a little on the darker side. This is not criticizing the movie however, it does its job quite well.
Plus the dwarf song rocks.
Well I saw a lot of movies, but these are the ones I saw in the theater,
@ragingloli What did you dislike so much about Star Trek Into Darkness?
The Butler. I thought it was great.
Star Trek. I liked it. I like all Star Trek pretty much. It wasn’t one of the best, but it was good.
Iron Man. I thought it was good also.
Going to see Rush in the next couple of weeks.
I’ve only seen a couple. Kick-Ass 2 and 2 Guns. Both were decent.
I have seen a lot of movies this year. The best? 42.
Those I can remember…
Loved
The Conjuring
Olympus has Fallen
Safe Haven
Liked
The Call
Warm Bodies
Disappointed
Hangover III
The new superman was awful!
The list is very long. When I’m at sea in bad weather and not on duty, I’m usually below decks watching a film riding out the storm.
The three films I saw in this past year that I remember most were:
Mr. Right, (2015) which I highly recomend. It is fucking hilarious. Rockwell at his absolute best.
I don’t get films as quickly as you guys, and I miss quite a few that you all are familiar with. A few months ago, I was sent a flashdrive with a film called U Turn (1997) on it. This is a really freaky film. It goes surreal within the first 15 minutes and you’re never sure what’s actually going on and who are the crazy ones from then on. It twists like crazy, but you can’t take your eyes away from it. The trailer doesn’t do it justice. I love it and will watch again soon.
And the biggest surprise for me was A Million Ways to Die in the West. LOL. I live offshore, so I don’t get a lot of invasive hype like you guys do. So, when it comes to films, I’m pretty much flying blind, if I don’t actively research them. It’s just easier to hit the play button on the VLC screen and take my chances. I give comedies about two minutes to get a laugh out me before I turn them off. I thought the name of this film was kind of hokey (I didn’t know McFarlane had anything to do with it). I had it on a flashdrive for over a year before I ran out of films and got desperate enough to watch it.
Trust me. A Million Ways is the best western comedy since Blazing Saddles. And that is a hard act to follow.
I’ve seen a bunch. I thought Wonder Woman was fun. There is a really good gay movie from Argentina called Esteros. Get Out was pretty good. I also liked Logan.
Movies just seem to suck lately. I’m more about TV right now.
Do you mean all movies, or just ones that were released this year?
