Do you think Boehner is ready to back down?

Asked by Dutchess_III (47069points) October 2nd, 2013

Even Fox news has started singing another tune.

This is a really good comment piece. Short and sweet.

I liked the line in response to Boehner calling for a conference with Obama ”... Republicans want to go to conference to continue to discuss the one thing President Obama and Democrats have said for years is not negotiable. So what the hell is the point? (Of asking for a conference)”

If they weren’t ready to call defeat before the shut down, they certainly won’t after. They are committed to this like James Dean playing chicken at the aqueduct.
They’re probably afraid that a 180 at this point might make them appear foolish in the eyes of some.

Dutchess_III's avatar

Do you think they seriously don’t realize that they already look foolish and stupid in the eyes of most?

@Dutchess_III that’s where I was going with that…

KNOWITALL's avatar

Yes. He’s getting pressured from all sides now.

rojo's avatar

I don’t thing Boehner really wanted to do it in the first place, he was just thinking with his pocketbook.

Strauss's avatar

He was actually thinking of his speakership.

rojo's avatar

He just believe he will need tea party backing for re-election. Remember, they don’t like it when you disagree with them and will pour any amount of money necessary to make sure someone more to their liking is elected in your place.

KNOWITALL's avatar

@rojo‘s right. Politicians are good with taking a firm stand but this one is going to have some major backlash unless all Reps support it, which we do not. So now they’re going to try to save some votes and back away.

Boehner may have cooked his own goose by being big man this time, but he always was such a jerk behind Obama’s back during press anyway. Never liked the dude.

Haha! Boehner does nothing but back down. The question is who he is backing down to at any given moment.

I have a feeling that in the next elections the Dems will win by a landslide.

@Dutchess_III there’s a type of bias whose name I’m forgetting but the bottom line is when two people of very opposite viewpoints see the same message, they both interpret the message as supporting their viewpoint.
The problem here is Dems may see this and say “They’re going to vote those Tea Partiers out”, whereas the Tea Party base will see this and say “This is precisely why I need to re-elect them”
damm it this phenomenom is rigth on the tip of my tongue…

^^ Confirmation bias?

drhat77's avatar

not confirmation bias specifically. Thats when you only select “proof” that support your position. This is when both sides see the same piece of evidence as proof for their position.

I say he is publicly crying again within 72 hours.

I can’t wait to see him gone and yet I worry about who will have the job next.

Boehner’s problem? Maybe it’s a question of bloodflow…

I’m a democrat and even if I was a republican, I would see this a mess. They are holding the security of the United States in peril. And even the republicans think this was the wrong time to fight this. They were pretty much just suppose to vote to pay the bills for now and keep the government open. This isn’t the time to fight stupid issues. They have the rest of the freaken year to do that.

It’s simple. If I went to paint someones home an we agreed on a payment amount, he cannot turn around and say he won’t pay me unless I clean his windows and his gutters. Just freaken pay me. If they want their windows and gutter cleaned then he can discuss that with me after he has paid me for the work I already did.
President Obama is simply asking them to pay what they have already charged.

Meanwhile, they aren’t getting any real work done. There are stories of them having night caps and coming back smelling of liquor and they continue to get a pay check for not doing their job.

This is when some mob guy would come in handy. Break some knee caps and make them pay up.

Someone needs to start a bill to introduce a new law and get everyone to sign up for a bill by the people, where as, they can no longer get paid when they close the government down. If they don’t do their job, then they should not get paid. They can’t turn it down if the majority of the citizens in this country vote for it. And add that if they cannot fulfill their obligations that they may removed permanently and will no longer be able to hold a political job.

Needs to go on the polls for the next election.

Read this about how easily Boehner could end the madness and feel your blood boil.

Pandora's avatar

Boehner doesn’t want to do it because he is afraid of losing his position and having the tea party do anti-campaign adds to get him out next year.
He would look like an Obama crony and they can’t have that. They are at war with Obama.

Also I don’t know if this is true because I have not had time to confirm it, but I was listening to the news and they said this whole fight has to do with Congress and the Senate paying higher premiums under Obamacare. They said that there was a special stipulation earlier on about them getting more for their money since they would have to pay a higher premium but that the media got wind of it and so it was scratched.

So it left them pissed because Obama care would cost them more but not the public.
If anyone knows more about this please chime in.

I heard my tv playing as I was painting my kitchen, so I do not know what station it was on, nor do I know who was the person reporting this.

Meant to say ads, not adds.

Still waiting.

When I look at his face with his evil and mean facial expression, I fear that he won’t back down. He’s a puppet of the Tea Party Republicans.
