Pros and cons?
I’m trying to decide whether to wait or not.
There have been reports of people getting vertigo or headaches from the jiggling icons or something.
I must say I’m not vividly enthused by the prospect as I don’t even like the Live Wallpapers on Android. I like my backgrounds nice and peaceful :)

Happy. The backgrounds move slightly as you move the phone but the effect is pretty subtle.
You can turn off the parallax
You don’t have to choose a live wallpaper. I have the iPhone 4, so I didn’t even get the option. Overall, I’m happy with the changes. I like a change every now and then. Honestly though, I don’t think it’s a must-have.
I’m not too impressed with the visuals and turned off parallax before any reports about people getting motion sickness from it. I wish I could turn off the useless animations, too – not because they make me dizzy, but because they wast time and battery.
I find some of the fonts hard to read, and I hate that on my iPad, I can only fit 9 apps per folder page. Yes, multi-page folders are nice, but on the iPad there is so much more room that it is unnecessary to have to scroll through pages within a folder.
I wasn’t going to update, but my son needed a new phone and I was intrigued by the new camera features, so I used his upgrade and got the 5s and gave him my phone.
I’ve read in the media that some people are complaining about things moving in iOS7, but the funny thing is, I’ve not seen anything move that didn’t move before. My wife hasn’t either. So, no problems here with iOS7.
I agree with @livelaughlove21 that it’s not a must-have upgrade, but the nice thing is, my apps are one-by-one updating to iOS7 and making changes and adding new features as a result.
I asked this question the day it came out and got mixed response. I liked from the first day. I like the look of the new native apps and most of the new features. Just a matter of learning a few new things, but you always have to do that with a new OS. I’ve seen complaints about reduced battery life but haven’t experienced that or any other problems.
You all know what’s it’s like the have an android. XD
I’m currently refusing to update. I heard it drains your battery.
I haven’t noticed any change in battery life. I still run out of battery at about 9PM every day.
I don’t pay close attention to battery life, so I can’t really comment about that.
@Rarebear – To turn off parallax, you o to Settings>General>Accessibility>Reduce Motion>On Turning Increase Contrast On in that same menu supposedly helps improve visibility… I haven’t really found noticeable differences, though.
I have an iPhone 4S and haven’t had any issues. However, I only had the phone for a couple of weeks prior to the update, so I didn’t really use the other OS for very long.
I like it. The animations when waking up is a bit irritating, but I’m so glad the skeuomorphism is gone.
@livelaugh
Thanks for that info. Since there’s nothing must-have about it I’m thinking I’ll wait till the next one and hope they straighten out the battery usage issues.
@DeanV
What’s skeumorphism?
In this context, Apple making all their apps look like the real-world counterpart, i.e. the cheap looking leather on the calendar, or the yellow legal paper on the note app. It was ugly, tacky, and in my opinion not good interface design. There’s a good article about it here.
@hearkat Thanks. I don’t see a big difference either.
I can’t sync Itunes on the laptop since the changes, that annoys me.
I think people with iPhone 5 love it more than people with lower numbers. I have it on 4s and I’ve seen the difference performance wise much better on the 5. I mean it’s a OS it’s going to be more progressive than the previous version of course. With that being said the over all feel and operation feels sleeker.
My son loves it.
I refuse to install it because of the issues I had when I installed iOS 6.
Just out of curiosity, is it possible that ios7 could effect your signal strength?
I’m running 6, my sister is running 7. We were sitting right next to each other at the hockey game, I had full bars on my phone, she had zero. It was weird.
We both have Verizon.
My friends hate it, said it screwed everything up on their phones.
I have the iPhone 4 and the update has really slowed everything down. I don’t have a moving background (probably because I don’t have the newest iphone). I notice everything lags now. The apps open slower, texting has some glitches. It has some pros. I like the new look. I like the new swiping instead of clicking to get back to certain things. It takes some getting used to. I really like the fact that you can block texts and phone calls now. Great addition.
I like the way it looks, but it has been a little choppy on my 4S; I can tell that it’s designed for a faster phone. I am going to upgrade my phone soon, though.
I think it took a significant step backwards in usability. Skeumorphism done properly will allow the user to immediately intuit how to interact with the software because it parallels their existing experiences, and makes people more comfortable/confident with using software. For example, buttons that look 3dimensional invite the user to touch them, and when they respond by looking pushed in, it confirms their expectations, rewarding exploration. Flat touchable colored text doesn’t have this property. It’s just one example.
Some of the features do look more attractive visually, and is a nicer experience for people who are good at figuring out software.
@Katniss – That seems to be a hardware issue – we’ve experienced it since the iPhones came out. Our clocks are even slightly off even though we’re all AT&T.
@hearkat That makes sense. My sis and I both have 4’s. It was very odd. She must have rebooted the damn thing 10 times. lol
On my iPod Toch I find it great… suits the device perfectly… on the iPad it seems too simple… still… I have o get used to it…
It actually seems faster on my iphone 4 than ios6 did. Of course I turned off all of the power hungry features like background updating, etc.
Eh I’ll be coming back to this thread often. I don’t like the camera slide. When I want to take a photo really quickly on iOS6 I just swiped the camera icon up. Now it seems like with one hand swipes it only goes up half way.
Also, I don’t feel like the tapping is responsive enough. I’d rather get some sort of effect that I’m pushing down on something. I mean they have that parallax effect, I dont know why they can’t and some sort of push down effect.
So yeah two cons,
Slow reaction swipe time to camera mode and unintuitive unsmooth pressing.
(iphone4s user)
I agree with @pleiades about the slow camera swipe. Very unresponsive. It never goes all the way up for me either.
