My definition is, luck is something that happens to you seemingly randomly which you initially perceive as either good or bad. I use the word “seemingly” because what happens may actually be the predictable result of a conscious or unconscious act by you or someone else, and I use the words “initially perceive” because what appears to be good or bad luck can turn into the opposite.
For example, you spot a $10 bill on the street. That’s good luck. But when you bend over to pick it up, you throw out your back. That’s bad luck. However, in the hospital you meet a nurse with whom you fall in love. You wed and live happily ever after. That’s good luck. Unless, of course, you wind up going through a messy divorce the first year. That’s bad luck that came out of good luck that came out of bad luck that came out of good luck.
Luck happens to everyone all the time but some people ascribe it to such personal beliefs as religion or fate.
Being at the right place at the right time to have the right thing happen to you without anything to hinder it.
If it weren’t for bad luck, I’d have no luck at all.
Luck is where preparation, opportunity and initiative intersect.
