Are there real Bat’leth's with sharp points, for sale?

Asked by talljasperman (21919points) October 5th, 2013

I had a friend who loved collecting fake and sometimes real daggers and swords. Most of them were fake, which leads me to wonder how you can get real swords past customs? Is it legal to own a real Bat’leth?

Yes, they exist.

But you won’t be able to find one by searching for a ‘Bat’leth’, because that is copyrighted by paramount, and they don’t license weapons that are meant for combat.

I know a few smiths that make and sell ‘sci-fi swords’ made of varying grades of combat-ready steel.

Star Trek fans, I have a question for you guys. Is it possible to take classes to learn how to fight with those like Klingons do? I think I heard there were actually classes for that. but I hear a lot of things, so…

A lot of major sci-fi conventions will have someone there offering combat classes. There’s often a tournament as well, so I hear.

Damn. Actual combat classes. So this means it’s a legit style? That’s fucked up, but really cool too. I’d go there just to check that shit out.

I saw one on Ebay a few months back but it was a mini. I mean, it was neat and all but I would want a full size and not an 18 inch piece. @Seek_Kolinahr came up with a few good ideas I’d also try flea markets. You really never know what you’ll come across. It may take a while to find but I bet it will be cheaper!

If you want something shiny to hang on your wall, the flea market is an option. If you’re planning on beheading zombies or battling alongside Kahless, you need a sword smith, and it will NOT be cheap. A decent Bat’leth, made with quality steel, will cost over a thousand dollars.

You could probably get a Mek’leth, the Klingon ceremonial knife, for a few hundred.

@Seek_Kolinahr If I was handy with a blow torch I know a guy at a flea market that’s selling 2 large sickles… I wonder… Weld them together, cut the handles and polish!
