Does your cat lick you to show affection like dogs do?

My ex and I , years ago, went to visit a friend of his who had a cat. The cat jumped up on the back of the sofa and began licking my then-husband’s hand. Is this common? Does your cat do it?

I had a cat who was really into licking my armpits. She would hop into bed, settle down along my side and go at it with obvious delight, purring away. It hurt like hell—that raspy tongue on tender skin—but it was some big bonding/grooming ritual for her, so I indulged her every now and then. After about 2 minutes, though, I just couldn’t stand it anymore.
I’m sure I’ll be the only one to say, “whatever floats your boat. ” lol
Occasionally, but mine are more grabbers. They are always slinking out a paw when I walk by and pulling me over for some chin scratchies! lol
My female Siamese swipes at me from the top of her cat ree when I walk by. Snagged again!
My cat, Costello, likes to lick my hand, arm, any body part exposed. She also gave me a wet louie in the middle of the night about 3 weeks ago. She must like ear wax. Kind of freaked me out. Woke me out of a sound sleep; I didn’t know what was happening. My sister said she likes the salt sweat from my skin. I just think she is a re-incarnated dog who is very, very, short. Unless she bites me or the skin starts to come off, I usually let her go for a while then she leaves me alone.
The first cat my family had did. My cat now has, but rarely. And he’s only licked me. He prefers butting his head into you.
…butts his head into you…is that an oxymoron?
Yes, one of my cats licks quite a lot. I have been told that cats who do this were weaned too early. The ASPCA says the behavior can be redirected to a rawhide or bone chew, which I may try.
I think if I gave a rawhide to Costello to lick on, Snap (the dog) would be very jealous. Or maybe Cos would start barking and Snap would have another playmate.
