What is a good website for finding recipes?

Asked by Hawaii_Jake (37734points) October 14th, 2013

I’m not pleased with allrecipies.com. I don’t want to have to join. I merely want to look up recipes.

What sites have you found on the web that provide good recipes?

I don’t like recipes from standard websites. I like to search the chef I like and pick a recipe from them.

I’m fond of Cooking for Engineers. Not the prettiest site but it works well for how I cook.

@Headhurts Paraphrasing the details then: What chef’s have you found on the web that provide good recipes?

@johnpowell Thank you.

I usually just google what I’m looking for then choose from there but I admittedly am not much of a cook.

I don’t have a good aggregator site to recommend, but as far as chefs I am a constant fan of BudgetBytes (poor grad student, after all) and Smitten Kitchen.

Also, if you don’t already have one you can make your own aggregator via using an RSS reader (i recommend feedly) on the feeds of various food blogs and get a constant supply of recipes.

I like Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall’s recipes. I have made some from Delia Smith and Jamie Oliver, but Hugh’s are my favourite.

The BBC recipe site is worth a look.

Epicurious is considered, by people I know, the most elite site. Supercook is good for listing the ingredients you have on hand and coming up with a recipe for you.
RazzleDazzle is kind of fun. Google: Recipes, and there are too many references, but it’s fun to browse, if you have nothing better to do. I also google a particular recipe and compare. I still haven’t found a particular Hungarian champagne torte.

I like not sticking to one site. When I need a recipe I Google it. There are always many links and I try as many as necessary till I find an easy one recipe I like.

allrecipes.com is very good; as is epicurious.com. I use both of them but mainly rely on my good old cookery books. You can’t beat The Joy of Cooking.

This is what I do, I go on Google Images, instead of just regular Google. So if I type in Pad Thai or Pumpkin Cake, the pictures of the dishes come up first. When I see something that catches my eye, then I click on the picture and choose Visit Page, which takes you to the recipe. I’m very visual when it comes to cooking, so I like seeing the dish first. Doesn’t matter what site it comes from, but I have discovered some favorite sites with this method.

I too, am one of those folks who doesn’t want to just use one recipe site. With my method, you get a good look at the product and then you will be taken to sites that you never even imagined existed.

That being said, one of my favorite sites is Two Peas and Their Pod This is where I got one of my staple salads, Cilantro Lime Quinoa

Another one that I have gotten a lot of recipes from is Kalyn’s Kitchen

And Pioneer Woman Cooks

And My Recipes

And Yummly

We wind up using Epicurious and Cook’s Illustrated / America’s Test Kitchen.
