If you have a sink in your kitchen island and it is set up for people to sit around it, do you like it?

I really don’t want a sink in my island, but the sink will be very far from the stove if I don’t. It would be about 10 feet. Also, using the island to prepare food and even putting the dishes in the dishwasher will mean I face out towards the family room while doing these chores, which I like.
What I dread is when using the sink it is almost impossible for some water not to sometimes get around it. Also, the dirty dishes and pots and pans might sit there at times or pile up if a lot of people are visiting. I plan to have a few stools around the island and all that would be unattractive if people are visiting.
What do you think? How do you like your island with the sink? I love a large island with no sink in the middle of the kitchen. This will be long, and there is only a wall in the back of the kitchen, the island is like a barrier you walk around to get into the kitchen. I hope that makes sense.
The other choice is the sink that would be far away, it would be off to the side and would face a window to the backyard.

The closer the sink is to your primary work space the better, unless you want to force yourself to exercise more.
I love a large island in the kitchen, but I haven’t seen one with a sink. I don’t think I would want that.
If it’s long enough why don’t you have one end for a prep area and he other for socializing?
I had it in one island but it was sort of in the center of the kitchen with another bar to sit at.
Sorry I though it was a deserted island and you have a sink.
@Judi I am getting two dishwashers, so the sink has to be between the two, which means the sink will wind up in the middle of the island. Ugh, I don’t love the dimensions on the kitchen. I wish I had changed it before set in stone. I’m kind of fixated on the stove being in the middle of the backwall, and centered to the island, which means the sink under the window will be far away. The fridge is far on the otherside. I am not very keen on huge kitchens. This one isn’t even that huge in sq ft, but it is long. No matter what bigger than I need.
@WestRiverrat I like everything close together too. My husband says I want the kitchen to be like an RV. LOL. In my apartment right now it is a small kitchen and I am fine with everythng being within a few steps.
I grew up with this, and it was great. My brother and I had to wash and dry the dishes every night, though, so we didn’t have to worry about them piling up.
You could have the sink one one side of the island and maybe the seating area on a slightly lower – chair height rather than bar stool height -level on the other side. Or have two sinks; one for prep and one for dishes?
As long as the island is big enough, I’d be totally OK with the sink being on the island. It would probably make things easier, even if you had a sink full of dishes. It would be great if the dishwasher(s) were also in the island. During a big gathering, like Thanksgiving, people might be sitting there talking to you, while you are doing this or that, but mostly they would be eating at the regular dining room table, so having the sink in the island is not as “yucky” as you might think. I think I would like it.
Why not have 2 sinks? It sounds as if your kitchen is big enough for it.
I have an island with a cooktop. The sinks and dishwasher are directly to the left behind me on the counter. I love the arrangement. I have to seats across the island from the cooktop. They get used occasionally while I’m cooking. But there’s no messy pots or pans to mess up the island. The wall oven is a few feet away. My refrigerator is directly behind me on the right. I can cook a meal moving hardly five feet total back and forth.
My parents have an island like you describe, and it’s great. Much better than the old one with the range on it. They also have two dishwashers (both set in the island, on either side of the sink), which sounds silly but really helps with getting dishes off the counter.
Since the ratio of sinks to dishwashers is generally 2:1, I can only assume that you will have 4 sinks. I don’t see why one of these couldn’t be on the island. At least until it’s voted off.
I don’t think I’d like it. The sink is for cleaning, and the things that need cleaning are messes, so the messes pile up around the sink.
