Which live entertainment experience would you rate as your best?

By live I mean an event you attended, a concert/festival/stage play or maybe sports related.

Many of the Circ de Soleil shows I’ve seen were pretty amazing but intend to have the most fun when there’s audience participation. I love a good Melodrama with a sing along, and had a blast at Blue Man.

Bruce Springsteen concerts.

Many over the years by benefit of working in advertising. Here are a few:

1. A Sinatra concert which, despite my distance from the stage and the failing quality of his pipes, was a dream come true.
2. The wonderful actor James Whitmore giving the audience a dramatic and unforgettable lesson in his acting skills
3. Mel Torme, once solo and twice paired with George Shearing in another. Both concerts were performed in an intimate dinner room at the Dallas Fairmont, and I was very close to the stage.
4. In the same venue as #3 I saw Ella Fitzgerald, Joel Grey, the Mills Brothers, Tony Bennett and many others.

I won’t bore you further… ;-)

British Grand Prix 2005 at Silverstone, Michael Schumacher won, first and only time I saw him win with my own eyes. Amazing day. He had a great race with Kimi.

Take that at Manchester arena 1995. I was 16, 3rd time I had seen them live. This time it was without Robbie. We were on the front row, I was desperate for Mark to look at me, he never did. The one time I took my eyes off him and looked elsewhere, Jason was looking right at me, and he smiled and winked at me. My heart melted.

@ucme You know me too well.

I would say Monaco 2005 when I actually met Michael Schumacher, but it wasn’t a great race for me.

Mine was being on stage in a San Francisco Opera production of Aida. I was only one of the 25 Ethiopian prisoners and we had only one chorus to sing, but what a thrill!
As for being in the audience, it was at a performance of the same opera at the Baths of Caracalla in Rome. Against the open air background of real ancient ruins, the warm moonlit summer sky, they were doing the same scene I was in 15 years later in San Francisco. The triumphant march ended with a chariot and 2 real horses carrying the hero coming very fast straight down center stage and wheeling off stage right. The next scene was silhouettes of a pyramid, a seated camel, and an Arab. As the lights came up, the camel rose and the Arab walked it off stage. It was a real camel. I was mesmerized.

Well, I’m a die-hard Melissa Etheridge fan . . . and all her concerts have been fabulous for me. I’m usually one of four straight women in the audience ;-)

Robin Williams had me laughing so hard for two hours that I couldn’t move the next day.

I once ate some ‘shrooms and wandered over to Johnson’s Grove Park. While sitting on a bench, and tripping fairly hard, I watched what I thought was the most outstanding mime I had ever witnessed perform a particularly gruesome death scene on the sidewalk just a few feet away. His eyes locked with mine and the raw, pleading emotion in them made me feel like I was riding in to the abyss right along with him. I remember thinking, ”This is entertainment. There is no crowd here. There are no cameras. It’s just this mime laying his soul bare right now for me.”

Turns out it was just some albino dude choking on an over large bite of hot dog.

Anything I’ve ever seen at Red Rocks, especially on hallucinogens. I probably will never see a show at a better venue.

So far, it’s a tossup between Progressive Nation tour 2008 and Opeth/Katatonia 2013.

Both included Opeth.

The former also featured Dream Theater, and introduced me to 3, a relative unknown prog band from Woodstock, NY. I was instantly in love. I was seven months pregnant during that show, and liked it so much we followed the tour to the next city the following night. Between the Buried and Me played as well, but made absolutely no impression.

The latter was just the two amazing bands. It was at a venue where my husband and I are furniture, I was right in front the entire show, the bartender was generous with the Bombay Sapphire, and almost all of my favorites were played, even though they are on albums that are about ten years old.

So, introduction to new awesomeness + general awesomeness vs. Nearly orgasmic music experience.

When I was a teen, I went to Great America (now a 6 Flags) in Santa Clara, and laid down in the parking lot, on a small area of lawn, and watched them set off fireworks right above me. It was amazing.

@josie agree. They had the best magic show.

I saw Frank Zappa in 1981 at Painters Mill in Owings Mill Maryland. I had a seat four rows back at the center of the stage. David Bowie in 1987 during the Glass Spider tour was also excellent.

I would have to say Cirque Du Soleil “Ka”. It was an amazing production. The stage was suspended and was constantly moving. The athleticism of the performers was truly awe inspiring. Along with the visual feast there was the musical component. I wanted to stay and see it again.

Toots & the Maytals at a private show for my college graduating class of about 250 people, in our gym. One of my best friends had just gotten in a boatload of mushroom chocolates and he gave them to everyone we knew. I think the entire audience was tripping balls. When Toots began playing “54–46” everyone rushed down to the dance floor at once and there was not enough room, so the band invited us up on the stage to dance and about 50 of us piled up there. Toots and his ladies loved our energy. I remember catching his eye and he was grinning the biggest grin I’ve ever seen on a performer as he sang. Such a wonderful show.

Even saying that concerts aren’t my thing. My best live event, wandering around scotsdale a local musician at a bbq joint. Great food. Great ambiance the music drew me and transported me.

My very first one, the original Kingston Trio, Denver Colorado 1959.

Next, the Blue Man Group in Las Vegas about 5 years ago

and finally, one of the last live performances of Dave Brubeck.

Cheers folks, good stuff.
I have two that stand out, Live Aid at Wembley July 13 1985. I was a teenager & my uncle took me along with his pals.
Then there was the football at Euro 96 held in England, I was at the Scotland game where we won 2–0, always nice to stuff one up the jocks.

Springsteen at the old Orlando Arena in 2008. They postponed the Saturday concert until the following Wednesday so the band could attend the funeral of keyboardist Danny Federici. They opened the show by taking the stage in the dark, saying “This is for Danny”, and played ‘Blood Brothers’ in total darkness while photos of him showed on screens all over the arena.

Very moving. Great show.

You know I’m going to say Barbra Streisand in concert. I have seen her four times but the last time meant the most to me as it will probably be the last time I see her live. That woman is on such a pedestal as far as I’m concerned!

I recently went to the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville to watch one of their live broadcasts and that was a really special experience for me. That show is legendary!
