When you buy candy to give out on Halloween (and assuming that you usually have leftovers), do you buy the stuff that you like, so that you can eat it?

Asked by Mama_Cakes (11162points) October 31st, 2013

Or do buy candy that you know that you’ll never eat? No temptation there.

I bought stuff I like.

And I’m glad I did, because the last year I bought candy, we had exactly ZERO trick-or-treaters. It was totally lame.

Now I don’t bother. We drive out to a decent sized subdivision of upper-middle-class yuppies. Dodging the lazy people in minivans is the worst part. Doesn’t anyone else actually WALK door to door?

Yup – always do (buy candy that I like.)

Follow-up question: What do you buy?

Seek's avatar

Snickers, MilkyWay, Heath Bars (om nomnom…) and Starburst. Oh, and Sweet Tarts for my husband.

This year I bought candy that I don’t like because I can’t have any. I bought Skittles in honor of Seahawk running back Marshawn Lynch, the Beast!

We buy candy we don’t like.

And, when the kids were, well, kids we used to raid their loot for those that we did like.

I bought some of each. It was all given out. When the crowds dwindled because of school events, we just turned out the lights and weren’t home.

I buy what I like. I also test it – purely for quality control purposes.

Snickers, Heath, Jr. Mints, Payday – and Dots for kids who have allergies.

When I buy candy and actually participate in this ghoulish ruse, I buy candy I adore. I like miniature Hershey bar combo packs. The leftovers are just the right size for a chocolate snack every once in awhile. Should I slip and buy anything consisting of caramel, there’s little hope they will last till Halloween and I must dress as the invisible woman (again) with her arms and legs sawed off so she can’t answer the door. :)

I usually buy candy that we like because we don’t get many trick-or-treaters. I prefer to like the leftovers.

Same as @LuckyGuy, my hubs is a sugar monster unfortunately. He usually makes me stop giving out candy around 8p-ish and eats the rest over the next week or two.

I actually bought Twizzlers and stuff plus chocolate for $28 this morning, geesh.

I get so many trick-or-treaters that I never have any left over anyway. I can’t afford to give out the candy that I really like, but I usually get something that I will at least eat. This year I am giving out carmel apple orchard pops.

ccrow's avatar

Unfortunately, I have yet to discover candy that I will not eat….

what i like since i never know whether i will have a little or a lot of trick-or-treaters.

I have always bought the stuff I like, but this year, I bought my own bag of Reeses! If there are left-overs from tonight, I’ll snack on a few and give the rest to my family/friends when they come over.

We always buy the stuff that we like, but we almost never have any leftovers. I do occasionally eat a few pieces while we’re handing out, though. Subsequently, we never buy candy corn. Yuck!

flutherother's avatar

Only a third of what I bought has been given to kids and I will eat the rest. I have started already.

I buy the stuff that my husband and sons like.

It used to be so easy to unload any leftovers—just place them in a bowl at work and they’d be gone by the afternoon. Now we’re on our own. One of the downsides of retirement.

YARNLADY's avatar

I give out packs of microwave popcorn or hot chocolate envelopes. I always have them on hand.

We usually give away most of the candy collected by the kids.

Pachy's avatar

No, but I wind up eating lots of the leftover stuff anyway ! And there’s ALWAYS too much left.

Jeruba's avatar

That takes planning, of course, @Pachyderm_In_The_Room.

It’s almost 9:00 PM (close of ‘business’) and there hasn’t been one kid at the door! Not one!!!

It’s mine!!! ALL MINE!!! Bwahhahahah !!!

janbb's avatar

@LuckyGuy Not gonna share – even with us?

I have lots left too, although I did have kids. Strategic planning!

LuckyGuy's avatar

@janbb The bowl’s right here. Help yourself… – to the Dots! The Heath bars are all mine!

janbb's avatar

@LuckyGuy I’ll trade you some Snickers for some Heath bars.

Heading home with the family.

Two king size bars. Two bags of Doritos and a bag of goldfish crackers. Filled a pumpkin bucket twice. Fingers crossed for almond joy!

ETpro's avatar

Yes, but then when it comes to candy, I am hauntingly easy to please. The trick is finding ones my wife likes, because she’s one in a million humans who hates chocolate. So the small PayDay bars are big. When pressed, she’ll eat Snickers. But it has to be mostly something other than chocolate.

I get stuff I like
I have cavities or something so I get wicked pain from eating candy so that keeps me from eating too much of it anyway
