Geriatric security guards, how much security can they really provide?
Around town here there are several locations that have supposed security guards. However, these security guards look more like grandmas and grandpas that should be sitting at home and not in a position that could get them hurt should some funk jump off. They don’t have guns, no clubs, no cuffs, most just have a uniform with a patch; I even seen one of them manning his post with HIS CANE. On a night like Halloween when many act stupid, set things on fire, break windows etc, what can any of these 65+ unarmed security guards do but call the real cops (if they even get the opportunity) and hope they show up before the perpetrator(s) escape?

Dude.. They aren’t there to get all Lethal Weapon. They are there to notice something and call the real cops.
I’m confused…where’s the bit about the clothing the female guards wear?
Nearly every week my local newspaper runs a story aout some young hoodlum who tried to mug a senior citizen and got an all-round thrashing with a walking-stick instead. I wouldn’t bet on these security guards being as defenseless as you think.
And they probably have radios and telephones and everything to call the police.
Great answer, @johnpowell! I only hope there’s one of those jobs waiting for me.
The goal of a security guard is not to kick ass. The goal of a security guard is to watch and notify 911.
You wouldn’t believe the damage a geriatric can do with a cane. Respect.
@Rarebear And they probably have radios and telephones and everything to call the police.
A cell phone maybe, but there was no radio to be seen unless they had it hidden away somewhere.

You can hire a homeless guy or a teenager to do that, and save on the cost. If I had a business I want the guard to do more than “Call a friend”.
