How do you fast travel on Assassins Creed IV?

I can’t seem to find the instructions online.
Hubby isjust sitting around playing games today because he’s sick. Boo

I think you have to open up the map and then pin-point where you want to go. I’m not quite sure, but you can only fast travel to the places you’ve been to.
