Some of us Jellies are indulging our audiophilia, and asking you to play along!
@ucme uses http://audioboo.fm (you can sign up with twitter or your email and it’s free) for voice-only or post a YouTube video of yourself.
We’ve done Please Call Stella in the past, so let’s try something new.
How about… This one?

Or just tantalize us with your own words.
Don’t forget to let us know what country and region you’re from!
Have fun!

Thanks anyway, but I do voiceover work for $$$.
Aww… anything I’ve heard? (you don’t have to answer.. but now I’m SUPER curious!)
Some of you already know my voice, but I might still take part for the lulz.
If I read out the passage, do I use my posh reading voice or my normal, common way of speaking?
Never mind, i’ll just wing it…
I wish I could. I am awful at improvisation. ^_^
Damn. I’ll have to try again in a quieter room.
My microphone is weird when there’s background noise.
I will pass,I am a 300lb over weight truck driver with a high squeeky voice hence my nick name squeeky.
I went with my old please call Stella. I recorded it on my partner’s laptop awhile back. She has better microphone than I.
You have the best vowels.
Doesn’t “cot” mean crib, or baby bed, where you live?
Yeah, i did pause a little wondering what a bloke would be doing in a cot in the guest house…adult baby?
Haha. Here’s it’s just a foldaway bed. Like this
We call that a camp bed, funny buggers that we are.
It won’t record for me… sorry.
@Seek_Kolinahr & @Mama_Cakes
Yep, I grew up in Michigan. I’ve lived in Chicago for most of the past 25 years.
I thought I had no accent
Here is an old recording of me doing a horrible Scottish accent and pretending to be Steven Cliffe as a surprise for the real Steven Cliffe.
my brother from a falkirkian mother
Oh gods, @Blondesjon That was hilarious. And painful. ^_^
No, wait… Minnesota.
Ha! Closer.
Tried to catch myself there.
@Blondesjon That was the most hilarious 2:29 that I’ve experienced in quite some time.
So now you know how fuckin’ pathetic my life is…
Audioboo does not cooperate with Dragon Naturally Speaking, I was going to have a go but none of my usual tricks for getting around uncooperative websites work this time.
Is there a geographical divide,\that separates the routes from the roots?Everyone I know who was born in New England and NYS pronounces route as root. Both @anniereborn and @jaytkay said route as in about.
The little prepared speech included both the words route and root, as in “be careful of the large roots that come up out of the ground.” I supose that is interesting.
it’s funny because I always say “root” for route 66. it’s just the way I always remember hearing it.
@Aster I love your accent. When I was in The southern states a couple of months ago I found something very comforting about the accents. Everyone sounded so friendly and kind.
Oddly, I say “root” but also say “re-rowte”
And, obviously, the tool is a rowter, not a “rooter”.
New York City/Tampa FL.
As an adult, it was pointed out to me that people who grew up in New York (including me) always pronounce the part of the cooling system in your car as ‘radiator’ (as in ‘radish’).
It helps radiate engine heat, so is, of course….a rAdiator
Well, at least we always pronounce “coffee” with an O like God intended.
What is this “kah-fee” everyone drinks? Coffee.
Most New Yorkers call it ‘cough-ee’, and I’m not sure how correct that is either….
See, I pronounce “cough” differently than my husband, who is from the Midwest.
His is like “kahff”
I’m more… I don’t even know how to write it. Like the chick in that link said “coffee”.
Well all I know is, when coffee is pronounced your way, it always tastes better…..I don’t care what anybody says….
To be fair, when we were all little and they were teaching us to pronounce the ‘long’ and ‘short’ versions of our vowels, and we got to “o”, neither of them was supposed to sound like ‘aww”....so Mr. Seek is probably closer to right…
It’s not quite an “aww’ though, is it? It’s like an “ou” sound, but inside out. “Couwfee” made with pursed lips, instead of an open jaw.
And I learned to read British English in a New York accent, so who the hell knows, anyway. ^_^
I was born in the Bronx and grew up in a commuting suburb to Manhattan. No one I know ever says anything but RAY- diator.
Wow, @gailcalled….now I’m wondering whether RADiator just a Long Island thing…..??
@Seek Kolinahr I gave this some more thought, and if you and I and your husband all say ‘cop’ and ‘stop’ and ‘hop’ using the same “short” ‘o’ sound, it follows that ‘coffee’ should really be pronounced pretty close to how Mr. Seek says it….
@Aster and @Seek_Kolinahr Your accents are gorgeous. @Seek_Kolinahr, I didn’t think I liked New York accent, I didn’t think I did, but I listened to you 3 times. Lovely voice.
I want to do it but it says I have to find a friend first?
@Headhurts Oh, thank you! Though, that’s not the NY accent. Get me around someone from the Northeast, and it’ll come out, haha. I only strongly pronounce certain words these days. I’ve been around mainly Midwesterners, and living in the South for 20 years, and most of the media I take in (movies, music, and television) is British, so my accent is completely bastardized.
Just for fun, I’ll post my NY accent, which is what you’ll hear when I’m angry and/or not thinking about how I sound. ^_^
I know, I’m weird, but accents are FASCINATING to me.
NY Accent
You shouldn’t have to do anything but put in your email address or Twitter account.
I put in my email address and it said ‘all you have to do now is find a friend’.
Your accent is still really nice. Bet your son goes straight to sleep when you read to him.
@Headhurts thank you so much. To me, Seek sounds very Colorado and cultured while mine sounds like a sick old lady from New Jersey. LOL I can’t detect any “south” in my voice.
@Mama_Cakes you sound like royalty. Rather like Jackie Kennedy!
For what it’s worth, you sound nothing like an old lady from New Jersey. Not that that’s a bad thing (looks around for angered spirit of grandmother) !!
@Seek_Kolinahr
Great question.
Also how do I get my sample from Soundcloud to here?
Just copypasta the URL to the clip, I suppose.
I like it, Stokey. Scary, but not so much as to make someone want to run away.
You got kind of a James Spader / ‘Blacklist’ vibe goin’ on there…
I worked ever time to eliminate a southern drawl.
My voice is a little more relaxed for daily use
Haven’t watched. Yet.
