What movie should I watch?

Asked by naynay86 (944points) November 2nd, 2013

I am sitting home bored with nothing to do. What is a really good movie, any genre, just not real old. Old movies creep me out lol!

Home alone?

Then go for something like Silence of the Lambs, or the Shining, that will scare the crap out you.

We’re about to watch “Unforgivem” because we just learned that it has been remade as a Japanese story, thanks to @filmfann. I have not seen the Clint Eastwood film, although I’ve wanted to since its release.

I watched a movie called State of Emergency on Netflix last night. It was pretty good.
There weren’t enough zombies, but it was pretty suspenseful.

Have you seen Bridesmaids? It’s pretty hilarious. I love Kristin Wiig.

A movie called The Call is really good too.

Funny movies :Despicable Me
There is something about Mary
The 40 year old virgin
Anchorman
Tropic Thunder & Zoolander ( Two of my favorites)
Action, Die hard
Any Star trek movie. The one before this last one was pretty action filled.
Best action movie I like is Red Cliff. It is long but worth watching.

Since you like comedies, I will recommend “There’s Something About Mary”. Not my favorite comedy, but a good one!

Don’t miss Charlie Kaufman. You go straight to his best, Synecdoche, New York, or you could start with Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.

There’s David Lynch, if that’s your type of thing. Go with Mulholland Drive.

There is always the amazing Coen brothers. No Country for Old Men, Barton Fink, or the best comedy of all time, The Big Lebowski.

And you can never go wrong with Wes Anderson. There’s the classic The Royal Tennenbaums. But don’t miss the underrated The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou and The Darjeeling Limited.

And if you’re into a type of slow, minimalism, you could explore Jim Jarmush (one of my favorites). There’s Stranger than Paradise, Down by Law., Mystery Train, and Dead Man.

This week a friend recommended something called “Hachi: A Dog’s Tale”, starring Richard Gere, available for streaming on Netflix (the movie, that is….not Richard Gere himself). .

I haven’t watched it yet but as I understand it, if you like dogs and enjoy a good cry, this might be the movie for you…

@OneBadApple. It is a very good movie and also sad and moving at the end. It’s based on a true story and the details of the entire story are something special. Hachi: A Dog’s Tale

@Bluefreedom Wow, as it happens, I read a short article about this story only a few months ago and was amazed by it, but did not know that they made a movie based on it. I did not make the connection until clicking on your link, so now am really looking forward to watching this movie…

Thanks very much…
