ACT help...

Asked by Feta (930points) November 3rd, 2013

I’m trying to register for the ACT and it wants to know how many years of classes I’ve had.

I take AP classes so rather than taking the class for an entire year, it’s only one semester.

But the class counts as an entire credit.

So should I say that I’ve had 2 years of classes (4 semesters) or 4 years as if I’ve taken 4 classes all year until graduation.

I just don’t want a college to look at that and think I only took a class until my sophomore year…

You are worrying too much about fine-tuning something that no one will read very carefully. There will be better places to be specific about duration and quality (such as AP) of your courses.

Just the facts, ma’am. If you have taken five semesters of French, for example, specify that.

The admissions office will not get stuck on that. They are much too busy. Just do well on the subject matter tests.

Your high school will be explaining the curriculum somewhere, I would think..either on a hand-out or in the counsellor recommendation.

What exactly is the question? Is it “How many years of Advanced Placement courses have you completed?” It seems to me they’d be more interested in credit hours than years.

I’d put 4 if you’ve been enrolled in AP courses all four years of high school. I’m sure they’ll verify that if it’s important to them.

This may sound stupid, but why would the ACT care about this? Your ACT score is your ACT score regardless of what classes you’ve taken in the past.

I have no idea…I’m just trying to register for the test and they want information about my entire high school life.

I’m going to put 4 years…
