A new way to catch online pedophiles. Your thoughts?

Asked by Mama_Cakes (11173points) November 5th, 2013

“Terre des Hommes—an international charity which concentrates on children’s rights based in the Netherlands—has created a virtual 10-year-old girl “from the Philippines” named “Sweetie.”

Sweetie was designed to track down—and hopefully convict—online pedophiles who use “webcam child sex tourism.”

I’m not sure where Terre des Hommes got these numbers, but they state at any given moment there are least 750,000 pedophiles online. That’s a staggering number of nonces with webcams, IMO.

Warning: This video may be upsetting to some viewers.”

The source, parents who sell their children into this life, also has to be addressed. That is where the money is going and as long as money drives this it will exist.

Wow. There are some twisted puppies out there.

I’m for it, if it works. Unfortunately, it’s never ending. They catch 100,000 perverts a year, but there are still probably millions more.

Every little bit helps.

Isn’t Big Brother already watching???

We should use any method possible to identify and stop them. Go for it.

If its working then I’m all for it.

And still christian priests, the true paedophile menace, are left untouched, unlike the choirboys.

Asian children are so exploited by men all around the world. It would be nice to introduce such kind of operation in other countries too as perverts seem to be spreading all over. Good job on behind this project.

However one can catch deviant perverts is fine with me.
I’ll even add, too bad, but….I think ALL child molesters should be executed. Perverted Leopards don’t change their spots and they are a menace to society and should be swiftly eliminated. There, I said it….compassion for pedophiles, yeah, well, sorry you’re so fucked up but lights out for you!

@Coloma I’m with you.

@kritiper Big brother isn’t watching for child porn unless you are someone famous.
@Mama_Cakes Every bit helps.
@Coloma I kind of agree. Just think they should pick an island and stick all the really messed up pedophiles on there. Then they only have each other to mess with. Oh, and take them on a ship and push them overboard about a half a mile out. If they make it to shore, well lucky them. LOL

@ragingloli right, but I want to hear your thoughts on this.

I can’t believe that there are 750 000 men online that are trying to abuse children. That alone makes me lose faith in mankind. Where are the women in this figure? I think that this robot is a brilliant idea. I wish there were more policing. Perhaps there are volunteers (adults) that can help to stop them?

@Neodarwinian In an ideal world parents care about their kids and watch their computer activity. Sadly this is not an ideal world.

@Pandora Yes, or…better yet, save all the little lab rats and bunnies and cats and Beagles and chimps and use pedophiles in their place. They know exactly what they’re doing even if they cannot control their compulsions to molest, and if you’re going to commit horrible crimes against humanity well, you lose all your rights. Out them in stockades and spray bleach in their eyes and liberate the bunny rabbits.

Jesus Christ, whoever developed that probably had a big hardon while doing testing it.

I think it’s a great plan.

@Coloma Even this guy?

Jonesn4burgers's avatar

I didn’t view the link. I’m afraid of what I would see. What works should be done. I just wish some big, mean stinky guy could reach through the computer screens of these people, grab them, and pull them through to their justice.

I clicked on the link but didn’t follow through. Is that enough to bring the police to my door? When people look at virtual images over the internet what crime is being committed?

Mama_Cakes's avatar

The link is fine.

@flutherother brings up a good point. There should definitely be a way of arresting these creeps, but is it illegal to interact with a computer image? Suppose the guy says that he knew all along that he was only committing a virtual crime. He could say that he was just interacting with animated pornography and that if he is arrested, so should the people who run the program. I am assuming that the virtual girl does not comply with any of the requests made (that would really be creepy), but the perverts are still given the opportunity to make the requests.

@Pandora – The dream police are inside of your head. While you make a good point, protecting against all danger all of the time is impossible. And while it might be tried by you and others, innocent people will always get caught up in the rightious maelstrom. My point? You can’t have your cake and eat it, too. (Not trying to give you a hard time, just sayin’...)

loli, you make me wonder sometimes.

As it seems to be working – great.

I’ve heard the Dutch police is working on being more involved in some chat room can’t remember what it’s called, and that was working well, too.
