In the 2004 version of Battlestar Galactica, who was your favorite character?

I was a big fan of the Sixes. They kicked butt. What a great combo of sexy and tough.
It took my hubby a long time to start watching the newer series. For years, he complained that Starbuck shouldn’t be a guy. I liked that the character was changed to a girl. If nothing else, it gave us something to argue about.

I am in love with Tyrol.
And I drool over 3/D’anna. Of course, she’s Xena, so there’s that.
Admiral Adama is just kickass.
And I thought Baltar was a very well done character, because of how deeply I utterly loathe him.
All in all, I’m a Trekkie first and foremost, but even I will say that the reimagined BSG is hands-down the best written science fiction series of all time, so far.
And yes, Six. ”Are you alive?”
At first I was sympathetic towards Baltar, but at the end, I was just sick of his whining. My hubby is a big fan of Saul Tigh. I think Tigh reminds him of being in the Navy.
Lt. Sharon “Boomer” Valerii , played by Grace Park .
=)
I like Athena better than Boomer. I think I empathise with her.
@Seek_Kolinahr My daughter watched Thor with me this weekend. There was a reference to Xena. My daughter didn’t know who that was. Sigh, this younger generation…
I cried when Tigh’s baby miscarried.
That’s a crime. It’s on DVD you know.
The one that looked like Richard Coughlan.
^ Baltar?
Oh! I forgot Leoben! He was great, too.
I tried and tried to get into that series, but always compared it to the original and found it wanting. Starbuck should NOT have been female!! Much preferred the original ABC series which had more sympathetic characters.
^ And exactly two action scenes, replayed over and over, sometimes upside down, sometimes played in reverse…
Nah, I like the old series OK, but TRS is amazing.
@TheRealOldHippie We own both sets on dvd. I can never get all the way through the old version. We watch the newer set over and over. Hubby and I still argue over Starbuck. I liked that she was tough and arrogant. I guess it works for me.
I even tried to convince myself the female Starbuck was the daughter of the original Starbuck and that the remake was “Galactica, The Next Generation.” That didn’t work either!
@Rarebear I loved BSG more than Firefly. I’m sure I’ll be turned over to the Reavers but I liked the movie Serenity better than the Firefly series. Does that count as blasphemy?
@Juels I have a special place in my heart for Firefly.
But, in answer to your question, my favorite character was Galactica Actual.
@Rarebear I totally understand. I feel the same about BSG. I came to Firefly late. A friend recommended it. I loved it but BSG is still my favorite. Can I be forgiven if I own the entire Firefly series?
My problem with BSG the series was how it ended. I thought the whole deus ex machina ending was a total copout, and I really thought it peaked in Season 2. My favorite episode was Scar.
Yes, you are forgiven!
Scar was a great episode. Just when you think Starbuck is a cold hearted bitch, she gives Kat her due and toasts all the fallen pilots. Good moment. I really liked Final Cut when you first meet D’Anna.
Edward James Olmos as Commander (later Admiral) William Adama, commanding officer of the Battlestar Galactica.
@gary4books Hi! Good to see you! I wouldn’t have pegged you for a BSG fan.
Starbuck kind of lit up the screen for me. Not surprising, since I had a huge crush on the original character. I thought I’d hate that they cast a woman in the role, but I didn’t.
After her, I guess I was most interested in Baltar. I don’t think they did enough with his character.
I can’t handle the idea of Xena as a blonde.
Is it bad I liked Starbuck – first season version – best? After New Caprica I was totally over her. But again, I think that’s good writing. She did go from being a bright, fun, likeable character into… what she became
(godsdammit, I don’t want to give spoilers but I want to TALK!!)
@Seek_Kolinahr Yeah, that’s fair. I was actually thinking of re-watching the series again soon, but I think I might have to call a cutoff point. The finale was just sad. For all the wrong reasons.
@Seek_Kolinahr I’m totally with you on this. I never understood what the issue was with Starbuck. She was great up until that point. To me the show jumped the shark at New Caprica.
Anyone want to come to the chatroom so I can talk about this without leaving spoilers? I’m going to explode here
I loved both Firefly and BSG, and my favorite character from either was Starbuck. How could she not be?

I’m back in there now, if you like. ^_^ @Rarebear @glacial and I were in about an hour ago.
It’s hard to pick a favorite as there were so many likable characters. It might be easier to mention the characters I didn’t much care for: black cylon, Kevin Spacey-cylon, Tigh’s wife, the deck jockey Tyrol married… and that’s pretty much it. I found something to like about nearly everyone else.
Also, props to Grace Park who had to play two characters, sometimes with herself.
^ Tricia Helfer as well. She played several different versions of Six, all very different.
@seek you’re right. I forgot about the non-sexy version of 6
There were Caprica Six, “Baltar’s Head” Six, Hooker Six, Abused/Suicide Bomber Six, Six that planted that photo evidence of Baltar, and the Six that Athena shoots.
All sexy, but all different. ^_^
“It took my hubby a long time to start watching the newer series. For years, he complained that Starbuck shouldn’t be a guy. I liked that the character was changed to a girl.”
Sounds like you were in accord, unless you mean to say “shouldn’t be a girl”
@gary4books Yes, one of my many typos. He didn’t like Starbuck as a girl.
Typo? Thanks. I make a ton of them.
