How do I learn to not take friends for granted?

Asked by talljasperman (21919points) November 6th, 2013

I burned some bridges and I lost some good friends. How can I learn from the situation?

One of the ways I maintain positive relationships is that I say thank you to everything another person does for me.

I’d take it for granted that the fact you have taken ownership for burning those bridges and are thinking about and asking for ways to avoid the same errors in the future means you’re well on your way there. Remember, though, it’s a journey that lasts a lifetime.

I take stock now and then. I think about who is in my life and who has left and why. It’s quite a personal thing really and hard to explain. I like what @Hawaii_Jake said. Show appreciation often. Treat others as you would like them to treat you. :)

Respect for others
(It’s not complicated…)

Never take your friends for granted and don’t let them take you for a ride either! I take a long time to make friends because I am basically a shy person, so I don’t have many friends, just a handful and that’s all. We all get so busy with our lives that we might not always get the time to show up. I have very close friends that I don’t talk to or see very often but I always remember to send them a mail or call them once in a while. This will definetly make them realise that they are not forgotten and that we’ve been busy. So we must always remember not to ignore our friends and cherish the ones we have.
