Should questions with article-length details be in headline case?

Asked by ETpro (34605points) November 7th, 2013

As in the case of this question, a simple question with a brief set of question details would reasonably be in sentence case. But when question details get many paragraphs long, as in this case; they essentially become a Web article and it seems reasonable to me that the question then becomes the headline of the article, and thus should be in headline case. Should we have a rule in the Fluther Book of Style?

And yes, while we are on the subject of headline case, the word “we” in the headline of the linked question should have been capitalized.

I don’t think so. I think the consistent style should be sentence format. As an aside, I tend not to read article length details.

I strongly prefer the format of this question over headline case.

I noticed your use of capitalizing words in that question you linked. It raised my eyebrows.

No, I do not like the idea of making headlines out of questions. I prefer them written as is normal.

I vote NO. My preference is just to keep the details as succinct as possible.

According to this article on elephant senses, elephants, including this Pachyderm, have only moderate eyesight.

No. There are other media in which you can publish an article, if you wish. This is a Q & A site.

The current Fluther question guidelines are: “Questions should be well thought out; use proper spelling, capitalization, and punctuation; and provide enough detail to adequately answer them and/or prompt a good discussion. Titles should be clear, concise, and in question form”.

Questions that were in Headline format would be pushed to editing to be rephrased as a question. Occasionally question titles phrased as questions but lacking punctuation marks will slip by.

I prefer questions to be phrased as questions. That’s the style of the site—not the Associated Press style manual.

Nope. Your linked Q should have been sent back to you for editing to remove the unnecessary capitalization. We miss stuff though. I hate to admit that we are not perfect. :p

@All. Well alrighty then. My bad, and not doing the Headline Case is easier to boot. Sorry for my failure to grasp Fluther guidelines. As stated by @muppetish, the answer is right there.

I didn’t know we could flag for that. Well, then, I will.
