This is a very cool story, but aren't they concerned about blowing sand obliterating the memorial?

I’m no desert expert, but I’ve heard the wind storms can be fierce. I’d think that one big one and all the work would be gone.

No. It might eventually be covered by sand, but it’s not going to happen in a single sandstorm. That’s a long process, as a rule. Since there’s nothing except the memorial to cause any particular drifting and heavy accumulation of sand, it’ll take as long as it takes.
Besides, who is going to “worry” about the memorial being obliterated, and why should they? Eventually we die, and eventually all that we’ve created will be obliterated, too. I’m not particularly worried about any of that.
I’d be concerned if I’d been one of the people who created it. And I think one good sandstorm could obliterate it.
I wonder how much money they wasted on this pile of rocks.
