How do you delete suggestions from log-in boxes?

Asked by confuzzlement (274points) November 10th, 2013

Using Google chrome. I think it updated, because you cant hover over it and press delete anymore. Does anyone know if there’s a way to delete them?

Here is help for Chrome’s autofill. It’s not recommended, however, to allow browsers to manage your passwords. If you are interested in simplifying everything and security, I’d recommend Lastpass.

If I’m understanding you correctly, you want to remove predictive suggestions, yes?

The text below is from https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/95656?hl=en&ref_topic=14676

The prediction service is typically turned on by default. Follow the steps below to turn it off.

Click the Chrome menu on the browser toolbar.
Select Settings.
Click Show advanced settings.
In the “Privacy” section, deselect the “Use a prediction service to help complete searches and URLs typed in the address bar” checkbox.

Keep in mind that the address bar shows matches from your browsing history, in addition to predictions. If you don’t want to see matches from your browsing history, clear your browsing history.

EDIT Now I see that I’m mistaken.

Here’s how to delete saved logins, from https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/95606?hl=en&ref_topic=3421433

Click the Chrome menu on the browser toolbar.
Select Settings.
Click Show advanced settings.
Click Manage saved passwords in the “Passwords and forms” section to see a list of all the usernames and passwords that have been saved.
Windows, Linux, and Chrome devices users: In the Passwords dialog that appears, use your mouse to hover over the site whose password you’d like to remove and click the X that appears on the right.
Mac users: You can remove your passwords in the Keychain Access dialog that appears.
You can also use the Clear Browsing Data dialog to remove all password records saved during a specific time period.

@hearkat I tried that, it didn’t solve the problem unfortunately.

@tom_g I just tried that, you’re a life saver thank you so much!

@confuzzlement (love the username, BTW):
I think you were responding when I added my edit… have you tried the second set of suggestions?

We use 1Password on our mobile and full-sized devices, and don’t use browser-based login auto-fills, so I’m not very familiar with the settings options.

Ah… Now I see that @tom_g provided the solution. Excellent!

@hearkat Thanks!
And thank you for the suggestions.
