Would an "ask me anything" style question ever work here?

Yes, I think it will work out. There are a many people over here with great knowledge and experience in different fields. Definitely it would be an interesting topic.

It would probably work great on Fluther. We need to try this.

I think it would be fun in the social section. I wouldn’t want it to become an every day thing, but I don’t see why we couldn’t do it every now and again.

How would you structure it? Would someone post a question such as “I know how to pickle any kind of vegetable. What do you want to know?” (maybe with “ask me anything” as a tag) and then wait for others to pose questions to that one person in that thread?

Or do you envision a kind of free-for-all with all the vegetable picklers and penguins’ neighbors and everyone else just jumping in all at once?

Or maybe post a topic (such as vegetable pickling) with a question such as “Who wants to know about pickling vegetables?” and let all the experts self-identify?

Sounds do-able in practice, but this being Fluther you can pretty much guarantee it’d devolve into an off topic, attention seeking, rage filled snore-fest…probably.

Maybe you could preface it with ‘Ask me anything’, à la ‘the jelly below me’ type questions.
