What are the benefits of dance education?

Asked by Emeraldisles5 (160points) November 15th, 2013

Besides creativity, posture, and passion, what could some of the other benefits be for dance education? I love it, and performing arts.

Finding a soul mate. My coed teachers wanted me to participate and I said no. They then said that I can dance with any person in the gym… So I picked a slow dance with the female gym teacher…It was the most erotic time in my life with a real person. Holding her in my arms looking into her eyes. I switched to cotton sweatpants from blue jeans… even till this day.

Posture is huge. You already mentioned it, but I want to expand on it. Girls especially it can be tranformational. Good posture, shoulders down, women look confident, elegant, appearance of a longer neck, thinner torsoe, posture is so much packaged in one. Not to mention standing straight helps build core and back strength.

Oh, core strength, overall strength, I was physically stronger than most of my peers from dance. Flexibility too. All of it can help prevent injury.

Grace. This goes with posture. When I do zumba, in a room full of people, people always comment on how well I dance, even though I can’t keep up anymore because of my muscle problems and lack of stamina. It is all about standing straight, knowing how to use your arms, and extension.

Dance lets you know where you are in your space. That teacher correcting your point, turning your feet the write way, putting your arms a little forward, you take that with you all sorts of things. All sorts of sports. Diving, swiming, soccer, all of it.

I think all children she take dance, at least try it. It has helped me in some many ways, and ai love it, and I love music.

I was thinking of going for a dance education certificate, because it is creative and fitness oriented. Oh I also forgot about performing arts. I love zumba, jazz, and hip hop.

I took dance lessons as a young kid. It helped build my confidence in the years I needed it most and had the least.

Body mechanics – over my adult years, I’ve had numerous yoga instructors and personal trainers compliment me on my form – I am a frumpy middle-aged non-athletic woman, so I attribute my awareness of how my body moves to the ballet and tap-dancing lessons of my childhood (from 3–16).

As actor’s who can dance say in their portfolios, “Able to move.” Dance gives a sense of where your body parts are and how to move them in a coordinated, attractive way. It develops a finely tuned sense of rhythm. When every part of you can move perfectly in time with the beat, you aren’t just hearing the rhythm, you are becoming one with it. I know all this because I never learned to dance very well, and those are the things I see and admire in dancers but know I do not possess. Well, I was a drummer, so I am able to merge into the rhythm of music, but I cheated myself on the remaining issues.

I had learned Bharatnatyam ( Indian Classical Dance) for a couple of years. From my personal experience dance definitely has the power of rejuvenating and thrilling our body. It really helped me in boosting my self confidence and building social skills. It’s a wonderful form of art which works as a medium of expression, non verbal communication, and also an exercise regime.

Thank you a lot guys. Dancing can burn a lot of calories too, hip hop and zumba are definitely great calorie burners, as well as tap, jazz, modern, ballet, and Bollywood dance.
