Has anyone ever paid for the ads to go away in an app on your mobile device?

I got Oplayer for my iPod Touch and VLC remote. Both were free with ads. I paid and the ads went away. If they didn’t do what they said the reviews would be shit.

They went away when I purchased the Pro version of Squaready for Instagram.
I’m fairly confident that if an app did not deliver on what they promised with an in-app purchase, the Apple App Store or Google Play Store would yank the apps.
