What's the equivalent word for a Tweet when it's a Facebook post?

Asked by ETpro (34605points) November 23rd, 2013

Is it just called a post, or is there a particular buzzword for putting something on your Facebook Wall or Timeline that is as unique to that action as a “tweet” is to Twitter?

It’s just a post or a status.

The updates posted by the user on his own wall is called Status. It is generally designed to be short and provide some information without going into too much detail..

What the user sees on his own wall like shared links, photos and status updates, posts made by friends on the user’s wall is called Feeds.

A comment, picture or other media that is posted on the user’s Facebook page or wall are called posts. Unlike Tweets, Facebook posts aren’t limited to 140 characters.

I call it “A tedious account of your trip to the market and how you’re now too tired to cook dinner, which clutters Facebook and makes me stay away and avoid it as much as possible.”

Anybody else feel the same way? After I’d been urged by a few friends and relatives, I started a Facebook account during the website’s very early years. It was a quick and easy way for people to share news, make announcements, and keep in touch.

Now, it’s very different. I had to unfriend my brother-in-law because he spends all day, every day, posting his most recent thought or activity. I got so tired of sifting through his 10–15 daily posts, I opted not to receive them anymore. I have a cousin who likes to post things such as “ARGHHHH!!!!” or “Sucks to be me today.”

I was going to say “status update”, like what @janbb said, but I think it has evolved to just be a “Facebook post”.

Hmm…a status update. A ’‘bweek’’, maybe.

A Facebook post is called a “status update” in the way that calling a person is called “dialling their number” (even though no one has a dial on their phone). It’s a holdover from when what people wrote on their own walls was actually a status, and limited to whatever you could reasonably type after ”Name of Person is…” Now that we can put any text in that box, instead of passively describing how we feel or what we’re doing, it’s not really a status update. But to a large extent we call it that… for now. I think most people now refer to them as “Facebook posts”, and the “status update” phrase will disappear.
