What are your guilty pleasures?

Asked by SadieMartinPaul (9027points) November 23rd, 2013

Another Jelly recently asked, “What are your pet peeves?” I’d like to turn around the question and ask about your favorite guilty pleasures.

A guilty pleasure isn’t a hobby or an interest. It’s something slightly embarrassing – you don’t openly or readily admit to it – that gives you undue satisfaction. So, playing with your kids or working in your garden aren’t guilty pleasures; a secret addiction to Entenmann’s crumb cake most certainly is.

So, who’s willing to ‘fess up and share your guilty pleasures?

Sam & Cat, I watch it with my daughter & the two little British girls Gwen & Ruby are just a joy to watch, so funny.

Sappy romance movies and anything that’s not good for me to eat, including cheeseburgers.

Reading dirty fanfiction stories.

Provided, of course, they’re well written. Mary Sue tab-a-slot-b lemons apparently written by 12 year olds do nothing for me.

The Enid Blyton books I read as a kid – I tend to regress when I’m sick. I will also have to second (well-written) fanfiction, though I don’t even read dirty ones. Fanfiction seems so very nerdy. Why is that?

Sitting alone on my couch in my PJs with a shit load of junk food and a few good movies, not doing a single productive thing all day.

@Ms_flirty Wtf?

Masturbating 3 times a day, with a small chance I could be seen. So exciting.

Fluthering. I admit it to no one

Watching Desperate housewives when no one is around.
Fifty shades of Grey. (I know there are tons of stuff out there WAY better than this book)
Krispy Kreme Doughnuts. I probably indulge more than I should.
(Walking around the house naked when I am alone) it’s good sometimes to be free from clothes!

I have to agree with Tim Minchin’s take on this. You people have a low threshold for guilt AND pleasure.

Haha, I never looked at it that way @anniereborn. He’s totally right, though! He usually is.

I think my own guilty pleasure is sleeping for as long as I possibly can (when my schedule allows it). I’m sure there are far more productive things I could do with my time off, but long sleep is so restorative.

@anniereborn He’s good! Thanks for the introduction.

^ Ha! Does that make my G&T a guilty pleasure, as it could have treated some African child’s malaria?

@Smitha

Krispy Kreme doughnuts, is there any other kind?

It amuses my wife that while I’m almost obsessed with fashion I’m naked in the house almost constantly.

Then again I adore long showers but absolutely despise getting rained on.

Ok, it’s time for me to come clean.

- I read “Fifty Shades of Grey.” It was poorly-written, predictable, and on par with a cheesy romance novel. I complained to all my friends about how bad the book is, and that I’d wasted my time. Then, of course, I read the next two books in the trilogy.

- I love to eat potato chips, French fries, and onion rings, all at the same time. (Those foods are all vegan, so they must be healthful, right?) I’m so embarrassed about this, I go to a separate carry-out restaurant to buy each item. No, I don’t eat this “meal” very often – maybe a few times each year – but I never tell anyone about it.

- I first read “A Tree Grows in Brooklyn” when I was age 13. Every year, I re-read it. Every year, I sob uncontrollably when I reach the same parts of the book.

- Every Friday, The ION channel has a 13-hour “Cold Case” marathon. That show wasn’t very good – often, it’s silly and implausible – but I’ve always liked it. I waste my Friday evenings watching back-to-back episodes, sometimes until 2:00 or 3:00 am.

@SecondHandStoke Dunkin’ Donuts is also there. For me Krispy Kreme outlet is near by, so it’s easy to go there when no one is at home!!!!

MacDonalds, it’s about the only secret I have from my boyfriend as he hates it!! I also consider cheese, American drama (such as Grey’s Anatomy), and country music.
