Does any flutherite really believe that Katy Perry's American Music Awards performance theme was controversial?

Please note: I used the word “controversial” not “offensive” as everything is found to be offensive by someone thus rendering the word meaningless.

But Japan’s obsession with American “culture.”

That’s acceptable.

Right?

Elvis was quite a no brainer, it’s true.

I do not think that her performance will be perceived as controversial by the majority of viewers. However, I do agree with a good portion of the commentary provided in the article. I do believe that the exoticism / eroticism of cultures is problematic. Do I think that Perry’s particular performance was in as poor taste as some of the other examples the author notes? No, in fact Stefani’s appropriation of Harajuku culture left a far worse taste in my mouth.

She’s a performer on a stage in a costume. I don’t see the slightest thing wrong with that at all.
People have to remember what they’re watching, fer chrissakes! If she was delivering a physics lecture in that get-up I’d be offended. But she’s a pop singer play-acting, so what?

Uhm…

Geisha are performers, who play to the sexual urges of men.

What’s the BFD here?
