What song is in your head today?

Asked by ibstubro (18804points) December 2nd, 2013

Most people have at least a 2-track mind. I find that most of us have a track of thought and a track of music.

Care to share what song is in your head, today?

Here’s mine and I’m tickled. Doesn’t get any better than that!

The Chipmunks’ Christmas song. Specifically the line “Me, I want a huuuuuula hoooooop”. It stays in my head for pretty much the entire holiday season.

ibstubro's avatar

@Seelix You poor dear. Do you have to hide all the sharp objects as soon as Thanksgiving is past?

Counting Crows – A Long December

Seelix's avatar

@ibstubro I’m Canadian, so the Christmas music starts even earlier here. As soon as Halloween is over, it’s all about Christmas. And I work in the mall. (Shoot me.)

OneBadApple's avatar

@ibstubro Etta James was something special, wasn’t she ? I could listen to ‘At Last’ on a continuous loop all day long and never tire of it…

ibstubro's avatar

The Crows are good, @OneBadApple, and yes I’m considering hunting up my Etta James CD so I can play At Last in a continuous loop in my car when I go to town shortly. May be my favorite song, ever.

@Seelix I’d have to counter that with something. The theme from Green Acres, maybe. lol

stanleybmanly's avatar

It’s peculiar that you bring it up, because I’ve become aware that my dreams are accompanied by music, and to my utter horror, there’s no controlling the “monsters from the id”. I woke up this morning and it was the Patience and Prudence version of “Tonight You belong to Me”.

stanleybmanly's avatar

ETTA JAMES “Stop the Wedding!” I’d love waking up to that!

Unbroken's avatar

Simply having a wonderful Christmas time…..

tom_g's avatar

Seems to be a Everything in its Right Place (Radiohead) morning.

KNOWITALL's avatar

Lola Montez, it’s catchy what can I say.

khajuria's avatar

None in particular. A few melodious soft-tunes by Mitis are always awesome.

ucme's avatar

None were.

Juels's avatar

Demons by Imagine Dragons. This was the last song I heard in the car this morning. @ibstubro I included a link since you’ve never heard of them.

dxs's avatar

I’ve had Sounds of Silence stuck in my head on and off for about a week now.
and this, too, because of @ucme,.thanks ucme…thanks…

ucme's avatar

Haha, no probs @dxs, it’s a classic that’s for sure.

dxs's avatar

@ucme Is it me or does he sorta remind you of Nicholas Cage? That’s what bothers me about it…

ucme's avatar

@dxs I don’t think he’s that ugly, more talented though.

Trim Up The Tree

I am determined to learn the lyrics this year.

Right this second it’s the relentlessly recycled A Holly Jolly Christmas by Burl Ives (whom I met as a kid).

“Haven’t got time for the pain,
Haven’t got room for the pain,
Now that I’ve found you.”

Not sure why, maybe just because I’m feeling good today.

anniereborn's avatar

Oh mine changes constantly. At the moment I have So Low by Porcupine Tree

damn I am cheery

laurenkem's avatar

Ah no, @blueiiznh ! I managed to get through the whole day with no one playing that song at work, only to return home and find you’ve now planted it in my brain for the rest of the night!

“I come from a land down under” Men at work

I am out of town and someone asked me where I was from. I’m pretty sure that’s when it started.

…where women glow and men ‘wonder’.

tom_g's avatar

I always have some kind of music or beat kicking around in my head. Sometimes I am not even sure what it is. After a few hours of hearing this instrumental groove in my head, I had to figure out what it was. It turned out to be Villain Accelerate’s Things Told.

ucme's avatar

@LuckyGuy The lyric goes, “where women glow & men plunder”

fundevogel's avatar

Pfft. Kaizers Orchestra of course, Di Grind specifically.

ibstubro's avatar

Thanks, all! Too many great answers to respond individually to each poster. I checked them out, though! Some great tunes there…both new and familiar.

@Juels Thanks for that link. I have actually heard that song before. They put me ver much in mind of another group, but I don’t remember who.

Funny you should ask. I can never get rid of this song in my head

Not that long ago this song and an M4 were the perfect combination. Sort of like macaroni and cheese or peanut butter and jelly. Plus, the girl seemed hot at the time.

Adagio's avatar

@LuckyGuy GA for Men at Work, I love that song.

LuckyGuy's avatar

@ucme I am aware of the correct words. That’s why I put ‘wonder’ in quotes. In my world a real man does not plunder – he creates. But that doesn’t rhyme. When I see a glowing woman I “wonder”. Is she or isn’t she?

ucme's avatar

@LuckyGuy Yeah but the lyric portrays your stereotypical Aussie bloke, if you want to put your own translation on it, that’s up to you.

LuckyGuy's avatar

Hey @ucme My head… my words… ;-)

I’m in a hotel right now north of NYC and am heading out. While in the shower I found myself singing Allyn Sherman’s Shake hands with your Uncle Max .
If this song is new to you, stick with for a minute. Like Tina Turner’s rendition of Proud Mary, it speeds up.
The people around here sure tawk funny..

ucme's avatar

@LuckyGuy I prefer the original, intended version in which men also “chunder.”

ibstubro's avatar

Points @flip86 for making me think of the Peppers. I love Anthony’s voice.

Very pretty @Smitha (didn’t hurt that Whitney Houston came up in the You Tube sidebar!)

@SecondHandStoke – I think we found something we agree on. Damn fine song.

tom_g's avatar

^ I was a huge fan of The Mind Is a Terrible Thing to Taste and Land of Rape and Honey (the latter helped me survive senior year in high school)

SecondHandStoke's avatar

Do you know what the title “Land of Rape and Honey” refers to?

No cheating everyone.

Don’t look it up.

My Ministry favorite, Jesus Built My Hotrod.

Loud enough to knock you down.

tom_g's avatar

Not a huge fan of Jesus Built my Hotrod, although I love the fact that Gibby Haynes did vocals on a Ministry song.

“We are never, ever getting back together..”. Damn her and her catchy pop songs.

Oddly enough, on the way home this afternoon it was “Stayin’ Alive.”

I Wanna’ Dance with Somebody! Whitney Houston. The love the way she yelled “heat”.

ibstubro's avatar

I can’t think of Whitney Houston without thinking of Greatest Love of All.

And I can’t listen to that song without a literal tear.
…the promise…

LuckyGuy's avatar

I’m still singing “I wanna feel the heat with somebody!” She was so talented. This was before the days of auto tune,. freq shift, word synth, etx. She really sang!
Her Star Spangled banner rendition at one of the Superbowls is still the best in my book. So simple, so honest, so enthusiastic, with no showboating. Wonderful.

ibstubro's avatar

I agree, @LuckyGuy.
Whitney had a talent that could just take your breath away. I remember when Greatest Love came out and it would just stop me dead in my tracks. The world just fell away. Like I was in suspended animation…cast in amber. It just overwhelmed my ability to process.
