I have a Yorkie named Jay-Bee, and he has a million nicknames.
It seems a lot of people end up with new puppies or adopted dogs around Christmas. Naming a dog something unique or appropriate to his or her character or breed seems important to me.
We named a sealyham terrier “Watson” because he was a faithful friend to the kids. So…
sherlock’s faithful friend, Watson.
Axel and Gretel. They’re Weimariner’s. Axel is 3 and Gretel is 5 months. She just got spayed yesterday. :-(
Axel is very regal like a lion. Gretel is wild and wiggles her butt a lot.
I love Weimariner’s. The have so much energy when they are young it’s incredible. Then when they settle in, they stick to you like glue.
I never had a dog, but one of my friends had a dog named Kodak, which I thought was a great name. Her husband was a photographer.
My husband gave me a dachshund for Mother’s Day when I was pregnant with my son.
I named him Samwise. About a year later he and hubby’s pit bull attacked my son, so I don’t have him anymore.
All the other dogs in my life have been my husband’s dogs.
Most recently: Hoss, an Olde English Bulldogge. We had to rehome him after we lost our house. Before that, Winston (pit bull, rehomed after the same attacking incident with Sam),
Bub – ¾ pit, ¼ Rottweiler. Best dadgone dog I’ve ever known in my life. I miss that old man.
Dogs he had before he knew me: Sarge & Thunder – German Shepherd/Husky mix, Tasco – Hound mix, Winkie – Poodle mix,
One of the funniest names I ever heard for a dog was on a TV commercial. The dog’s name was Barky Von Schnauzer.
I was tempted to name Gretel Loretta so when she tried to jump in the front seat I could sing “Get back Lo-Retta!”
6 dogs in my life over the decades.
Childhood/teen dogs: Tammy and Nikki: A wiener dog X and a terrier mix.
Holly & Gypsy: Australian shepherd mixed sisters.
Ruckus: A huge Coonhound whose bay made pictures go crooked on the wall. lol
Timbre: A Shepherd/Queensland X
All dead dogs now. haha :-(
Daisy, border collie/Australian Shepard mix
Sox, (1953)
Sox too (1954)
Saber (1955–1963)
Damon (1973–1980)
Asha (1996–2008)
Tony changed to Toby, and once known as Tubby (2006 – present)
Duke, Jack, Princy, Kaiser.
This is a very common security question on… everything.
No thank you!
My dog is awesome, and so is his name.
I have quite a few dogs here on the farm, so here it goes: Kubota, Nikita, Harkey, Tink, Buddy, P.W., Reba, and Freckles. I also have quite a few pigs and chickens.
I’ve had…
• Daisey the Bassett Hound
• Pantoof the Yorkie
• Bailey the Havanese
Oh, gosh… the dog I grew up with was Teddy, then my husband and I have had Frodo, Gretchen, Roscoe, Sheila, Bruno, Boris, Zoe, Maggie, Sofiya, Max, and Rip. We also briefly had our daughter’s dog Lucy who then became our son’s dog, and then her other dog Poppy, who is apparently here to stay. Current canine population- 5.
12 yo Pomeranian named Pikachu.
Two little rescue dogs named Kipper and Jasper Jax.
Two years ago I lost my beloved yellow lab, Digger. I still haven’t gotten over that one. He just moved in on my heart and left paw prints that will not fade.
I had a Rottweiler/Hound mix named Frank (I often called him Franklin).
A cockapoo named Pumpkin.
Another cockapoo named Alex.
A mutt named Smokey.
@cookieman I know two other Havanese that are named Bailey. That is so weird!
@janbb: I believe it is mandatory for every one-out-of-five Havanese owners.
The other four are required to smoke cigars in honor of the Havanese’s Cuban roots.
@cookieman Well, Frodo is part Havanese and I did see him wearing military fatigues and smoking a cigar so that explains that!
@ZEPHYRA Gorgonzola ? :) What a mouthful. I like to keep them down to syllables.
Black Labrador pup called Ernie Bert, after Ernie and Bert in Sesame Street!
I don’t have any right now. But my two sweet babies of 15 years ago were
Oscar-a doxie
Cricket-a JRT
I miss them every single day :(
Our dogs. That’s Spot on the left and Bear on the right. They’re Blue Heeler/Black Lab mix.
They were both all white with the black patch over the left eye when they were born, but Spot had a big black splotch on his back near his tail. Bear looked like a little polar bear and Spot had that big black spot on his butt. Their names came about easily.
When I thought I was going to get a puppy – another terrier – I told my husband I wanted to name him Æthelred the Unraed (Ethelred the Unready), since he was 6 weeks old and I thought he was too young to leave his mother.
My husband was not excited by Æthelred at all.
