Who else is in the great US deep freeze 2013?

Asked by KNOWITALL (29893points) December 6th, 2013

I’m in Missouri and it’s pretty stinkin cold. I’m leaving the water dripping at night, seperating rooms to keep them warm, and drivers are being complete idiots.

It’s a balmy 38 degrees F in upstate NY. The fun stuff doesn’t arrive until tonight. I think I’ll run around in my boxers for a few when I get home. And our drivers are always idiots. The ice might even help cull a few. (My attitude isn’t 100 percent yet.)

elbanditoroso's avatar

Not me! Atlanta Georgia – it’s 74 degrees today. I think it’s a new high for December 6.

Mostly cloudy, however. And it’s going to rain most fo the weekend.

jonsblond's avatar

Our windchill is 1°F right now during the middle of the day here in IL, It’s going to get cold tonight!

johnpowell's avatar

Snow here. And it barely ever snows here. I hate snow.

I have to go to the bank and pay my rent today. I’m not looking forward to going out. I’m somewhat irresponsible so I put some whiskey in my morning tea. Tastes like shit but the snow is gods way of telling me punish my liver all day long.

KNOWITALL's avatar

@johnpowell I have a nice Pinot stashed for the weekend, hey we gotta keep warm!

YARNLADY's avatar

We were promised snow in the valley for the first time since 2009 – when I was out of town – but so far there is no sign of snow here. The temperature says 39 degrees outside.

Lorna's avatar

No snow here, just really cold. We had floods yesterday around the East coast. Didn’t affect us though.

syz's avatar

73 here in NC.

KNOWITALL's avatar

@syz That’s just mean…lol

Tropical_Willie's avatar

This will be meaner, 82* F outside right now in eastern NC.

johnpowell's avatar

Wowsa. From my window it looks like we just got another 2 inches outside since I last posted. It is going nuts.

edit: tree branch the size of my leg fell about 20 feet from my window. My entire apartment is covered by a tree and I am on the second floor. Big motherfucking tree and I am getting a bit scared.

Tropical_Willie's avatar

Stay safe, @johnpowell have your “get out of town” bag packed with all your necessary items for three or four days maybe more.

johnpowell's avatar

@Tropical_Willie My mom lives ten minutes away. If shit gets bad I will walk to her place :-)

zenvelo's avatar

Here in wonderful Northern California, it was 27 degrees at home this morning, 33 in San Francisco. And a friend who lives in Ukiah CA (at 600 foot elevation) had to endure 19 degrees this morning.

The Bay Area may get snow on the hills tonight.

Seek's avatar

84 degrees and sunny here in Florida. Air conditioner is on and house is dark.

Avoiding the outdoors at all costs.

We won’t see the 70s by daylight until next Thursday.

Tropical_Willie's avatar

@johnpowell just take the “get out of town” bag; passport, meds, . . . non-replaceable items.

johnpowell's avatar

@Tropical_Willie :: I have a stockpile of shit food.

Seek's avatar

^ That’s a lot of noodles. Hope you have a propane stove, in case the power’s out. Otherwise dinner will be a bit crunchy.

johnpowell's avatar

I will just burn all the branches falling around me. This is by far the worst snow I have ever seen here. And no signs of letting up.

And yeah, I know this is a normal day in Ohio.

KNOWITALL's avatar

We practically had a white out yesterday and today.

ucme's avatar

No signs of the white stuff over here yet, not a snowman or snowball fight to be seen.

Dutchess_III's avatar

21 Here “feels like 8.” Whatever. Layering on the clothes.

glacial's avatar

I thought you lived in the south, @KNOWITALL! Just how cold is it down there?

Meanwhile, we’re having a balmy, rainy day in my corner of the Great White North.

Dutchess_III's avatar

MIDWEST! She lives in the MIDWEST!!!! Right to the right of me, who is in Kansas!

glacial's avatar

lol @Dutchess_III.

You know, it’s all The South to me.

Dutchess_III's avatar

We had a LONG ass conversation about where everybody lived. We finally figured out that nobody knew. I think it all started with someone saying Texas is in the west…..

glacial's avatar

@Dutchess_III Even I know that Texas is not in the west, ha!

Coloma's avatar

I’m the the Sierra Nevada foothills and we are fffrrreeezzzing. Lows around 18–20 and snow tonight.

Skaggfacemutt's avatar

It’s 24 degrees as a high today in Salt Lake City, and I am freezing my tailfeathers off! Last Tuesday it took my son 4 hours to drive 8 miles. The roads were just a big parking lot.Funny thing is, the week before, we were in the upper 50’s and beautiful out.

trailsillustrated's avatar

I like reading these. It’s hot here. @johnpowell your’e in oregon arent you?

johnpowell's avatar

Oregon indeed. My window above the computer overlooks a busy part of town. A few hours ago I saw four people throwing snowballs at a passing cop car. The cop honked and kept driving.

I love Eugene.

trailsillustrated's avatar

I love Eugene too. I saw Tool there. lol

Blondesjon's avatar

I’ve lived here in the Midwest all my life. We just call it winter.

Seek's avatar

I’m assuming it rains a lot in Eugene?

johnpowell's avatar

It goes like this. We have Rain and August.

Coloma's avatar

5:37 pm in the Sierra foothills and it just started snowing! Yay! Bring it on, we’re going to wake up to a boatload of snow! Woo Hoo!

Seek's avatar

In that case, the article writer is suggesting that if you ritually sacrificed several thousand residents, you might entice the sun to show up more often.

johnpowell's avatar

This might sound bad. But we have the most attractive lesbians in the country.

trailsillustrated's avatar

@johnpowell it was in 2002 or 3, I think.

mambo's avatar

I’m in NC, so I’m dealing with balmy 70 degree weather for another day.

Adirondackwannabe's avatar

@mambo Screw you. Kidding of course, but I’d kill for 70 degrees right now.

mambo's avatar

@Adirondackwannabe I would kill to see snow or experience cold weather. It was so hot and humid today and I hated every second of it. It’s hard to get into the Christmas mood when I have to wear shorts and keep the air conditioning on high.

If you snowbirds need a break, you’re always welcome in NC. The seasons are made up and the weather makes no sense!

Adirondackwannabe's avatar

Cold and really crisp nights are nice. It’s so clear and so beautiful. I’ve also seen lightning in a snowstorm. That was wild.

mambo's avatar

The coldest nights around here are about 30 degrees. I like it when there is no cloud cover because I can see tons of stars. I wish we had big snowstorms around here, but that never happens.

Adirondackwannabe's avatar

The snow isn’t bad here. It does get cold. Minus 20 F isn’t unusual. But north of us off the Great Lakes they can get 10 or 11 feet in one storm. That’s mean.

deni's avatar

I’m in Colorado, and I don’t think it’s gotten over 10 degrees in the last 3 days….I work in a tiny town outside of Boulder, and today the whole town lost gas. No one has heat. The restaurant I work in shut down. The wind chill is about -10. Luckily I have heat in my house, but it is absolutely horrendous outside. Last night I ripped the door handle straight off the drivers door on my car, it was completely frozen. Getting into the car from other doors is very annoying, and it’s only been a day. I absolutely detest the cold, and I wish it were July and 110 degrees again.

zenvelo's avatar

While running around the reservoir here in Lafayette CA, it began SNOWING! Flurry little flakes flying around, but damn! Snow!

zenvelo's avatar

@deni I have a friend in Eldora CO, -19 this morning, hasn’t gotten positive since Tuesday.

Seek's avatar

Half past 11 PM here in Florida. 70% with 88% humidity and 100% mosquito coverage.

deni's avatar

@zenvelo Yeah, it is bad, it is more mild here than in the mountain towns nearby, where I’ve been seeing temps just like that, -10, -20. Terrible!

Coloma's avatar

Poor stray animals and homeless people. :-(

TheRealOldHippie's avatar

It’s absolutely hilarious at times the way the people down here in the San Antonio area are carrying on – you’d think it was the end of the world! Then the fools go out in the cold (wind chills down around 17 – 20) wearing a tank top, shorts and flip flops being too lazy to go put on long pants, boots and a jacket. I have trouble feeling sorry for morons like that.

muppetish's avatar

Nothing crazy here. We peaked at around 66 in my part of Southern California and it should drop to 44 tonight with a chance of rain this weekend (the storm clouds rolled in this evening.) It’s certainly chillier than it usually is this time of the year, but it’s not nearly as cold as other areas.

When it does rain though, the streets (not to mention the freeway) will be a danger zone. Californians do not know how to drive in the rain. It’s absolute chaos.

Haleth's avatar

It’s 43 degrees in DC. Am I the only one having normal winter weather?

Coloma's avatar

A winter wonderland here this morning, but not as much snow as predicted, but….could see more before the day is over. We need the snow pack badly up here in the Sierras after the last 3 years of below average rain/snow.

zenvelo's avatar

The SF Bay Area is almost balmy, in the 30s all over this morning!

Seek's avatar

80 degrees again.

Dutchess_III's avatar

Oh shut up!
